Electric Landlady - Kirsty MacColl
by nigelpm - written on 22/05/01 (Useful, 21 readings)
Rating:
her music as well. "Electric Landlady," her CD from 1991, is good and a CD you always come back to. "Walking Down Madison," the opening track, is stupendous. It shows Kirsty branching out, trying her hand at a little rap with a solid beat, but the lyrics are great. The song is a stinging indictment of all those who refuse to acknowledge the social ills that they encounter on the streets daily. Completely different is "My Affair," a hit in the UK. It's clever play on words is sheer poetry. "Children of the Revolution" has more of a folk rock feel to it, and again, the lyrics are hard hitting. "He Never Mentioned Love" ...

Tropical Brainstorm - Kirsty MacColl

Rating:
Shop Who Thinks He’s Elvis’ or ’Fairytale of New York’ (with the Pogues) you are likely to get an “Oh yes, I know who you mean”. However the career of Kirsty MacColl has been one of highs, and many lows, and which was tragically, prematurely ended when she was killed in a boat accident in the late part of last year. I must admit I cried when I head the news. What a waste of pure, unique talent. ~~~~~~~~~~ Kirsty MacColl was the daughter of the legendary folk mega-legend Ewan MacColl although you didn’t often hear any folk roots in her music, which tended to be pure pop. Her albums were all superb, with witty lyrics and ...

Rating:
clear voice, as well as being able to deliver those cutting putdown lines. I was lucky enough to see Kirsty MacColl on tour last Summer, performing the entire album with a 9-piece band. She didn t tour often, as I believe she got bad stage fright. The concert was superb, and she came across as truly genuine, with a real love for the music, and musically the songs were even better live than on record. Sadly, this was to be Kirsty MacColl s last album, but what a way to bow out. ...
