21 year old MC from Queensbridge, New York. 1. Genesis (Intro) 2. NY State Of Mind This is a perfect example of a time when Nas is able to force the listener into his way of thinking, along with DJ Primo, an atmosphere is created, which can only be described as a New York State of Mind, making you see things in a different light. It is made most apparent when he says "I don t sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death.", and it des actually make you wonder if you sould continue to do what you thought was normal, it suddenly has more depth to it. back to 1994 and the first time you heard Nas' distinctive flow...jaw dropping. Illmatic boasted tight production from the cream of hip hop's East Coast, and lyrics that rightfully instated Nas as the second coming....after Rakim. Since then true heads have been waiting for the Queensbridge Prophet to deliver more of the same. Unfortunately its just gone downhill, this being the bottom of the barrel. The lyrical content has become money obsessed - much like the majority of mainstream hip hop nowadays - and the production well below par. The obvious highlight on this album being the Premo banger 'Nas is Like' which reminds me of the good old days, but ...
