There seems to be a fallacy these days that the names Jim Morrison and The Doors are interchangeable, one pretty much equates to the other and the rest is just minor detail that we need not be too worried about. It’s a common problem faced by bands that have a particularly strong and charismatic front man, and the mystique and dark brooding sex appeal of Jim Morrison cast a large shadow over the other three members of the band that has lasted to this day. But there was a lot more to the bands music than just Morrison’s input, something that despite all the fights and clashes of ego, he was the first to admit. The Doors are a group whose names is firmly in the history books, more so for the lead singer Jim Morrisons outlandish antics rather than the music, however the music of The Doors lives on. The group have a global appeal which only seems to strengthen with the years that pass. It is easy to forget just how different and sometimes strange the sound of The Doors was, but then Morrison was a poet before he was a rock star, and he wanted to perform poetry set to music. Sadly though, many forget that the group wrote a whole host of anthemic tracks during their careers: what about classic songs like 'The End', 'Chrystal Ship', 'Love Her Madly', 'Touch Me', etc, etc, etc... Basically, this album doesn't contain a single duff track - without sounding like your parents, how often can you say that about a CD these days? The Doors were a unique combination of musical talent on the part of Manzerak and the others who actually managed to turn Morrison's incredibly imaginative and powerful ... Read the complete review

Many moons ago i was contemplating whether or not to buy my first Doors album. I wasn't even sure what songs they had written but i had been told by a friend that i should give them a listen. Lo and behold, that very same day i came across this album on sale for a tenner. Too good to resist i thought and snapped up the bargain, two discs and all. The first time i played it i thought "yeah, not bad", there were even some songs that i had heard before. Over the coming weeks i listened to this album more and more and the longer you listen to it the better it gets. All of the hits are here (although not necessarily all the best ...
