... made Kamelot so distinctive, if irritating on occasion. The album opens impressively enough with 'March of Mephisto,' wasting no time on a separate introductory track by incorporating it into the song itself, and aside from questionable use of death metal style growling in the chorus, this is a reasonable opener that sets an appropriately dark tone. Unfortunately, the album fails to pick up hereafter, plodding onwards with tedious riffs and a seemingly bored vocal performance from the formerly exuberant Roy S. Khan, ...more

More confident and focused release, boasting great variety. Inconsistent, and ballads are quite dull.

Many rock and metal favourites. Disappointingly obvious selections, and no attempt to make the sound their own.

Great vocals, impressive guitar work and some effective use of synthesisers. Too many bland and occasionally annoying pop-rock songs.

Great pagan atmosphere. Poor production spoils effect of instruments.

Creative and distinctive fusion of metal and symphony. Acted interludes are unnecessary and distracting.

An excellent rock album, fantastic from start to finish. Some may be put off by the musical change in direction that Avenged Sevenfold took here.
