God's Great Banana Skin - Chris Rea
by ultras67 - written on 21/12/01 (Useful, 52 readings)
Rating:
guitar played mournfully, then you hear a voice sounding even more half asleep than usual drifting into ‘Nothing To Fear’. God’s Great Banana Skin is another Chris Rea album. Like his other albums the songs begin slowly, and allow plenty of space for Rea’s fluid blues like guitar and his dark-as-a-dungeon vocals. This is many ways is Road to Hell Part 2, as this is the follow up perhaps its not surprising that he – perhaps unconsciously – keeps the same feel and rhythms. The same long lazy guitar so reminiscent of Ry Cooder and the deep south blues and that voice. The voice that sounds like it has smoked the forests of Cuba ...

For all Chris Rea fans this is probably preaching to the converted. If you like Chris Rea (and maybe have a few albums) then it is strongly worth considering adding this one. If you don't know who Chris Rea is (on emerging from your cave which has been your home for the last 20 years), then this may be worth a listen too! Following on the heels of previous albums "Road to Hell" and "Auberge" both of which reached the Number 1 UK Album slot, "Gods Great Banana skin" (released in November 1992) didn't quite capture the same enthusiasm with all CR fans, reaching only the number 4 positon. Personally I like GGBS (for ...

Products similar to The Blue Jukebox - Chris Rea
The Sane Asylum - Blind Illusion
One of the finest and most interesting thrash performances of the eighties.
Vocals are the weakest aspect, and the band never recorded anything else.
Sounds Of The Animal Kingdom - Brutal Truth
Fast.
Little substance.
Perspective - Jason Becker
More Jason Becker material, in spite of his condition.
Some experiments are less successful.
Need To Control - Brutal Truth
More consistent fusion of styles.
Less variety as a result.
Kill Trend Suicide - Brutal Truth
Powerful performance.
Repetitive, and only an E.P.
Goodbye Cruel World: Live & Rare Tracks - Brutal Truth
Heavy Metal - 1999
Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses - Brutal Truth
Surprisingly varied and superior death-grind.
Falls into repetition after a while.
Bleed The Grey Sky Black - Bella Morte
Modern gothic rock that everyone can enjoy, even pretentious bigots like me.
Lighter and poppier songs are disappointing compared to the more experimental offerings.
Blackberry Jams - Jason Becker
Some more material unearthed from Becker's all-too-brief musical career.
Even less consistent than the previous collection.
H418ov21.c - Beherit
Each song attempts something different.
Each song is an abominable waste of time.
