Advantages: Great tunes that will stick in your head
Disadvantages: Does take a while to get used to
I have been a fan of Travis from the beginning. I do believe that they have created some of the best music, and overtake most bands.
I did anticipate getting hold of this album, and i have to admit, that i was not disappointed!
When i fisrt heard 'Closer', which was the first single off the album, i was not that convinced. It seemed a little 'off the way' for Travis and was hoping that the rest of the album did not follow in the singles footsteps.
When i first listened to the album there were certain tracks that i took to instantly such as '3 Times And You Lose', 'Under The Moonlight' and 'Big Chair'. Some of the tracks did take me a little longer to become 'accustomed' to. I am a Beatles fan, and this album reminded me of the first time i heard 'Revolver'. The shift from previous arrangements was something that grew on me and wasn't instant.
You can't lose that Travis feel, and you automatically recognise them due to Fran Healey's tones. All the tracks have the orchestral arrangements that all Travis listeners and fans will know, but there is more passion and power in the arrangements. They seem to be louder in a way!
This is a great album. You may be like me and not take to it instantly, but the tracks do grow on you, and i have to say that i play this album a lot of the time and have not got fed up woth it yet.
Summary: Good album, easily recognisable that it is Travis, and powerful tunes
