These guys are talented musicians though and it's good to see them trying something new, they really mix it up when it comes to styles and it's unlikely they'll please everybody or even anyone fully - as the songs vary so much. You can't really call it catchy but some of the melodies are superb, whether it's the slightly haunting Ragdoll Physics, the dramatic operatic Zodiac V...more

Rating:

The Butcher's Ballroom is an album released by Swedish avant-garde metal band Diablo Swing Orchestra, the album was released in 2006 by Candlelight. Balrog Boogie is most definitely the best song on the album with a superb brass section and a great big band sound to it - mixed in with the crazy high pitch Swede singing in Latin and raucous guitar riffs makes it a must listen! Unfortunately a lot of the rest of the album is hit and miss - I like swing and I like metal but I guess it's the operatic sections I do not like - opera vocals get on my nerves and the sections on this album are no different. The music is upbeat and positive. The sound isn't particularly passionate or exciting.

Magnificent vocals, great guitar power. Instrumentally unexciting and unadventurous.

Atmospheric and ambitious. Styles clash at times.

Great performance all round, not a single bad song. Acoustic sections seem a little rusty, but to me that's just cute.

Competent melodic death metal. Run out of steam.
