... badly. **Five Stars** 3. "Let Me Ride" This was one of a few classic singles which come from the album, and as this one features Snopp, you knwo that you're goignto hear something as good as you want to hear from the album. I have to say that aside from the quality of the lyrics, which use the tyipcal Gangsta rap style, the amoutn of samples, and diversity of them is what makes it so good. i thought this because despite the contrasts, the lyrics bring them together to make for some top-quality rap. **Fi...more

Premium Review The Chronic - Dr. Dre: Just Plain Bad (438 words)
by - written on 14/08/01 (Very useful, 311 readings)
Rating:

People will try and tell you that this album is some kind of landmark or that it changed hiphop. These people are commonly known as “stupid”. The Chronic is neither hideously bad nor divinely good. It is incredibly mediocre. It has been accredited as the album that spawned the genre of “G-funk”, but was that necessarily a good thing?? All this achieved was furthering the gentrification process that hiphop was already going through and the main perpetrator was, rather than being the Dre- the guy whose name credits the album, a certain Snoop Doggy Dogg. Surprisingly Snoop doesn’t sound as awful as he seems to in everything else in ...  Read the complete review

Dr. Dre (Andre Young) was born in February 18, 1965, Los Angeles, California. He was raised in Compton, and got his nickname by adoring basketball superstar, Dr. J. His step-brother is Warren G. His brother got killed in a fight while Dre was on tour with N.W.A He started off as a D.J for parties as a teenager, and soon earned himself a spot in the "Eve After Dark" club, where he would play keyboards and sing. Once a member of the rather anonymous group, "World Class Wreckin' Cru", Dre earned himself a name by producing tracks for Eazy-E, the D.O.C and others, and later became a gangsta rap pioneer as a co-founder, member, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Chronic - Dr. Dre: West West Y'All. And It Don't Stop (1355 words)

Rating:

Released in 1992, "The Chronic" is one of the most important album in the history of Hip Hop as it showcased the progression of the genre on how it had gone from New York, and got exposure as far as the other end in the country, here Dr. Dre displays what his unique take on Hip Hop is after leaving the pioneering Gangsta Rap group N.W.A, as he comes with his Parliament Funk-inspired sound named G-Funk. This style uses old P-Funk samples and adapts it to fit in with the most prominant form of Hip Hop at the time in the West; Gangsta Rap. This is the debut album from Dr. Dre and it helped to show off all the talent in the area after he had moved on ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dr. Dre Whey Hey!! (558 words)

Rating:

This, is a fantastic album, and I'd advise any of you hippy hoppy lovers to get out there and buy it! This is Dre's first album, and one definatly one of raps masterpieces. The beats on this album are different to the familiar 2001 tunes, and are a little dated, but his lyrics remain as good as ever. The beats are very familiar, and are very 'techno' and are very similar to the early works of Snoop Dogg. An example of Dre's lyrics:- 'What would we have if I had my nuts hanging on a wall? I'd have walnuts' Very funny! hehe. Well, enough of Dr. Dre's nuts, and onto his songs: Chronic Intro: A great ...  Read the complete review

Dr Dre recorded this album in 1992 it was produced by a record label called “Deathrow” records, who also recorded albums for Snoop Dogg and Warren G. The album was produced after the split of NWA and is an extremely good debut, solo album by a great rapper. Dr Dre has recorded some fantastic tunes on this album which was really Dre’s first move to make it seriously big. The album is kind of co-recorded by Snoop Dogg who appears in many of the songs and plays not only a fantastic role but an extremely important one too. The great tracks which are on this album include, “let me ride”, “nuttin’ but a g thang”, ...  Read the complete review

Tales From The B-side - Biohazard
Greater variety than the studio albums, with a few more punk offerings. Remixes only make bad songs worse.

State Of The World Address - Biohazard
Firmly establishes the template Biohazard sound. Greater rap influence will deter some hardcore punk fans.

Resurrection Through Carnage - Bloodbath
Should please fans of the early Swedish death bands. At times, sounds like a cheap imitation.

Nightmares Made Flesh - Bloodbath
Improved energy, technicality and fun factor. Still an imitation at its core.

No Holds Barred: Live - Biohazard
A strong collection of songs in an energetic performance. Punk songs aren't as well represented, and are rushed through.

New World Disorder - Biohazard
Plenty of breakdowns for hardcore mosh fans. Dull, monotonous and lacking in energy.

Mata Leao - Biohazard
Punk songs are more aggressive and energetic than before. Hip hop and hardcore punk rock no longer successfully combined, but set apart.

Means To An End - Biohazard
Return of the hardcore punk songs. The rest is tedious.

Breeding Death - Bloodbath
Crunchy, unpretentious old school death metal with great riffs and vocals Short, even for an EP

Biohazard - Biohazard
Original fusion of hardcore punk and hip hop that works quite well. Messier than later releases.
