I was first made aware of their music from the film Sexy Beast and the glorious use of The Stranglers 'Peaches' at the beginning of that film (remember the boulder into the swimming pool). That track, and many other hits are included here. This collection is a good bite-size introduction and does not contain an overwhelming amount of music. Premium Review The Collection 1977-1982 - Stranglers: Walkin On The Beaches.... (342 words)

Rating:

The Stranglers were a UK new wave/punk rock group whose main success happened during the late 70's and early 80's. For anyone looking for an entry point into the music of The Stranglers this is a perfect place to start, and was indeed the entry point for me. Rating:

A little background ------------------- The Stranglers originally formed in the United Kingdom in 1974 which is notably pre-punk rock. Through a combination of their angst ridden rock sound and common associates in London they were adopted into the developing punk scene. Despite this adoption, The Stranglers sound was a little different to the other bands on the punk circuit at the time. They were lyrically more articulate, a little more rock 'n' roll and had an organ/synthesizer player (which was considered very un-punk at the time (as punk tried to destroy the prog rock legacy of Rick Wakeman and his ilk). There sound was very distinct ...  Read the complete review

Enjoyable classic punk rock. Later songs are less impressive, and occasionally quite poor.

Entertainingly inconsistent. Repetitive and not too musically accomplished.

New Wave & Post-punk - 1990

Fine, consistently good pop music Not the strength of some modern vocalists

Classic Punk - 1996

It's Blue! Someone stole my blue vinyl!
