The Stranglers were a UK new wave/punk rock group whose main success happened during the late 70's and early 80's. They were revered by some but also distanced from and sometimes criticised by other punk groups for their innovative use of synthesisers, not regarded the instrument of choice for punk rockers. This collection is a mid-price collection and focuses on arguably the groups' most successful period between 1977 - 1982. For anyone looking for an entry point into the music of The Stranglers this is a perfect place to start, and was indeed the entry point for me. A little background ------------------- The Stranglers originally formed in the United Kingdom in 1974 which is notably pre-punk rock. Through a combination of their angst ridden rock sound and common associates in London they were adopted into the developing punk scene. Despite this adoption, The Stranglers sound was a little different to the other bands on the punk circuit at the time. They were lyrically more articulate, a little more rock 'n' roll and had an organ/synthesizer player (which was considered very un-punk at the time (as punk tried to destroy the prog rock legacy of Rick Wakeman and his ilk).
