The Haunted Made Me Do It - The Haunted
by Frankingsteins - written on 17/07/08 (Useful, 25 readings)
Rating:
The bastard offspring of At the Gates, themselves one of the more overrated Swedish death metal bands, the output of The Haunted was inevitably going to win over devoted fans with little effort, but doesn t live up to its inflated reputation. This second album sounds like a mediocre meeting of thrash metal with metalcore, as Marco Aro yells Pantera-style vocal lines over sub-Metallica guitar riffs, and the weak production quality prevents the drums in the background from ever being truly hard-hitting. The truth is that this is a very average album of modern Swedish death metal, meaning it owes its foundations to At the Gates and incorporates elements of the popular metal scenes from the 1990s and 2000s (namely groove metal and metalcore), making for a winning combination for those who have never experienced any of the better death metal bands out there. This isn t awful, but it s not something I d listen to again. Opener Privation of Faith, Inc. Actually sets a ...

Excellent thrash metal
None unless you don't like thrash metal
Actions - My Awesome Compilation
Chirpy British alternative rock
Perhaps limited mass appeal
Permutation - Amon Tobin
Very different, highly inventive
Conventional music becomes less exciting after this! Some tracks are atmospheric "noise".
Bricolage - Amon Tobin
Experimental and occasionally creative sampling
Some tracks become repetitive. Others simply don't work.
Supermodified - Amon Tobin
A cut above other samplists. Diverse.
Weaker 2nd half of the album. Lacks continuity.
Tervaskanto - Korpiklaani
One of the best folk metal albums ever
Makes the band's other work look like a bit of a let down
Tyrants Of The Rising Sun: Live In Japan - Arch Enemy
Simply amazing - vocally and musically
Some tracks sound a little similar on first listen
Dichotomy - Becoming the Archetype
Death Metal - 2008
