This CD kicks ass, there's only 2 or 3 that are below the level of the rest, which all rock! One of my favorites, right behind doggystyle : ) - Mattimus

There are a lot of critics who will complain about this album saying how it's not as good as Doggystyle, but let's be honest; what is? Snoop combines his smoth nasal style with some funky old skool beats on this album but the problem (as with most most of Snoop's albums) is a lack of Dr. Dre produced tracks. Not a single one on the album. The album was released amidst much controversy after a lengthly murder trial in which Snoop was accused of being an accessory to the killing of a young man. On top of this his Death Row comrade Tupac Shokur had just been killed in a drive-by shooting and his home-boy Dre had just left the label to embark upon a career as head of his own record label. The album was released at a crucial time then for Death Row Records and was a success selling 2 million copies. I myself am a huge Snoop fan and still play the album on a regular basis. 'Snoop Bounce' and 'Groupie are two of my particular favourites. He may be missing Dre but guest vocals from Tha Dogg Pound, Charlie Wilson (now Uncle Charlie Wilson), Nate Dogg and Warren G give Snoop a helping hand. A must buy for any Snoop Dogg or old skool hip-hop fans. If I wasn't such a Snoop Dogg fan I may have contemplated giving the album a three but I like the guy too much for that!

This is one of the many albums he has brought out and is one of the best as well. It was the follow up to the massive album "DoggyStyle" and it had a lot to live up to. Well it did live up to it and it did so much more. The style of the album was very like the first with his hardcore rapping but his lyrics had changed a lot with them going into more personnal details of his life. The producer of this album was Suge Knight which was a different producer from the first album which was produced by Dr Dre so the styles were going to be different. The change of the prodcer i think may of affected the album for the worse but it still came out excellent anyway. This album because of his style and lyrics is for real fans and not for people who are not fans or are offended easily. Also this album is full of now some of the biggest names in the business such as Tray Dee, Nate Dogg, Kurupt and Warren G. With the additions of these names it was going to make the album well known to a wider range of listeners so it was going to more popular with not just Snoop Dogg fans but to fans of people who are featured on the track. Well the album contains 21 tracks which is very generous considering the amount of tracks you get on a album nowadays. The album starts off with an Intro which is to get you into the feel of the style of the music which was coming. The album starts proper with the titled track DoggFather which gets the album off to a great start with a funky beat and some good rapping action. This tarck is then followed up with a couple of up tempo tracks which are called "Up jump tha Boogie" and "Snoop Bounce" for these tracks you could shake your ass because they were damn funky. You then get into the pure gold songs in the meat of the album with tracks like "Gold Rush", "Me and My Doggz and "You Thought". Exactly half way in the album and you get a track called "Vapours" and this is were Snoop starts t
o rap aabout himself a lot more and you get an insight of what his life was like. Then there are 2 tracks called "2001" and "Sixx Minutes" these are 2 of the better tracks on the album and they are well worth the listen because they are 2 of the best songs he has had on any of his albums. Tnis is followed by a track called Wake Up which is a has more rythem and funk to it and shows a lot of his lyrical talent and then there is a track called "Snoops Upside Your Head" which is a remake of Oops Upside Your Head, i personally like this track because the lyrics again in this track again is fantastic. The last 4 tracks are quite good but not as good as the middle part of the album and then it is finished with and Outro with 2Pac which has really no signicance to the album. So there you go there is my opinion on his album. It is a very good album but not as good as his first but it is still worth buying

There is no possible way to compare "Tha Doggfather" to Snoop's debute album Doggystyle. The Doggfather is not as dope at all! There are a lot of differences. The lyrics are still very good, although being softer. Snoop's style too has become a little cooler and slower in some of the songs. But the thing which really bothers me is the album's only big problem-which is the lcak of good producing in some of the tracks. There are a few tracks where the music is almost annoying! That doesn't mean there are no good tracks on the album. There are a few smashing hits: "You Thought"(with Superfly and Too $hort), "Wake up"(with Tray Dee), "Snoop's upside ya head", "Groupie"(with Kurupt, Nate Dogg and Warren G)and "Blueberry"(with tha Dogg Pound and the LBC Crew). The rest... Well, something's really missing. The touch of a gifted producer such as Dr. Dre. I think Tha Doggfather is the only album Death Row has come out with which is not great. Snoop probably felt that, because he wanted Dre to produce this album, but Suge Knight didn't agree. Dre was outta Death Row. The so anticipated album by Snoop Doggy Dogg turned out to be a bit of a dissapointment. Still, don't get me wrong-the album is still much better than many of the albums comming out these days. But you just CAN'T compare this album to Doggystyle or any other of the brilliant records made by the mighty Death Row. So, I think that the album is worth buying, but you should not have too high expactations as I had. By the way, no wonder Snoop is leaving Death Row and now he's working again with the world's best rap producer-his long time buudy-Dr. Dre. I heard their album is comming out at the end of January '98. I can hardly wait to see what happens!

I just don't get it. Ok, the beats were beter on "Doggystyle" but its not fair to compare anyone to Dr Dre. Besides DJ Pooh (who produced most the album) did a verry good job. The one thing I didn't like about Snoops 1st one was that none of the songs had any specail meanings. On this album he gets more personal at the times. He still stays hardcore though. Also think about what he had just gone through. His friend 2Pac was killed (who he dedicated the album to) and his other friend and mentoor DrDre just left the label, he had just got off a trail where he almost went to jail, and he was in the middle of the crashing Deathrow empire. But he still put together a clasic album. The album starts with the title track witch is a great song. This one was produced bt Daz and its verry good. "Up Jump tha Boogie" and "Snoop Bounce" show what Snoop can do with a swanky beat. The next song has my favorite Snoop flow ever. Hes just rapping real fast about randome stuff and is undicribable. One of my favorite rap songs. Listen to the sample they have here. "Gold Rush" is a great song with Kurupt on it who always makes the best songs with Snoop Dogg. It has a western film fell to it. "Me and My Doggz" is another one of the swanky songs on this album. "You Thought" is another good song with some smart and funny lyrics. Strong beat too. "Vapors" is a song about Snoop and all his friends making it out of the ghetto. This is what i mean by the album is more personal. Actualy Snoop said he wanted to make a positive album but the Deathrow wouldn't let him cuz they thought it would ruin their image. "2001" is great song and will probly be one of the standout tracks. I don't realy like it when artists don't their songs and Snoop didn't write this song and one or two more but he wrote or co-wrote the rest so its cool with me. I love "Sixx Minutes". Its always been on
e of my favorite songs on the album. its verry calm and quiete. Its kinnda about how everyone tried to steal his style after his 1st album. "Wake Up" is another good one and has Tray Dee who us now in Tha Eastsidaz now. "Snoops Upside Ya Head" is another great song with an exeptionaly catchy chorus. "Doggyland" is another good one with a unique sound. The final track is Snoop and 2Pac playing live and its sortta haunting the way it ends. you'll see if you get it. Overall I can't say this is Snoops best album but its the only one that I can listen to all the way through without haveing to skip a single track. Overall its well worth having. If you want to get all of Snoops albums this is actualy a real good starting point. Anyways i don't get why everyone hates this album but its actualy acceptionaly well done and should of been another clasic.
