THE DOORS - THE DOORS ----------------------- The debut album by this amazing American rock band must go down as one of the best debut releases of all time. In 1965 a group of students from the University College of Los Angeles(UCLA), started what was to be a turbulent ride through rock and roll. These students took the name 'The Doors' after a poem/book entitled the doors of perception. Led by Poet/singer Jim Morrison, the doors brought a new sound to the 60's, with a dark brooding version of rock, with intense poetic lyrics and music that was never scared to change from the normal poppy tunes that were highly popular at ... The Doors were formed in 1965 and had a relatively short recording career, primarily due to the death of front man and lyricist, Jim Morrison. That's what most of you probably know all ready, but how many of us have actually sat down and listened to their incredibly good back catalogue? The first thing that strikes you about The Doors is that they had it all. Guitarist Robby Krieger was incredibly adept at writing memorable riffs and performing blues solos that can get your toe tapping and your head bopping in an instant. Yet, he isn't the most significant figure of the band. Maybe it was Keyboardist Ray Manzarek, who even manages to trump almost every Krieger ... Read the complete review

The term 'classic' is used very freely and cheaply these days so I'm not going to use it. In fact, I'm going a stage further by saying that this is not arguably but easily one of the greatest albums of all time. Firstly, it's hard to believe that this is not a greatest hits album when actually it is a debut. Released in 1967 with much of the material having been written earlier, it is stunningly innovative for its time. Mixing driving rock, blues, jazz, Latin, psychadelic and eastern mysticism, it must have blown the mind of even the most acid jaded hippy. Finally, unlike a lot of old stuff when you listen back to it and wonder what on earth you saw ... Read the complete review

Released in 1967, the Doors’ eponymous album remains one of the most breathtaking debuts in rock history, and immediately established the Jim Morrison legend. The themes that were to dominate the group’s career – death, sex, excess, and despair – are carried along by exuberant performances by each band-member, and Morrison’s theatrical lyrics and delivery. ‘Break On through (To The Other Side)’ is an explosive opener, driven by Morrison’s full-throttle vocals. The bluesy ‘Soul Kitchen’ is followed by the mournful ballad that is ‘The Crystal Ship’, before the lusty ‘Twentieth Century ... Read the complete review

The DOORS make my top 10 favourite bands and their 1st album “THE DOORS” still maintains it’s place as one of their best (Absolutely Live being 1 of the others). First produced and published in 1967 by the band which consisted of JIM MORRISON (vocals), RAY MANZAREK (keyboards), ROBBY KRIEGER (guitar), JOHN DENSMORE (drums) and stayed that way until JIM’s death by heart attack in Paris in 1971. They produced what was for its time a unique blend of sound. ***THE ALBUM*** The front cover shows the face of Morrison alongside his 3 colleagues photographed by Guy Webster, the back cover 4 heads of the members by Joel Brodsky. Produced by P. A. Rothchild. ... Read the complete review
Products similar to The Doors - The Doors
Waiting For The Floods - Armoury Show
Enjoyable post-punk and proto-gothic, and other terms I'm clearly making up.
Lacks individuality.
So Red The Rose - Arcadia
Experimental and atmospheric, but retains a pop sensibility.
The softer songs sound rather similar.
New Age Of Earth - Ashra
Retro ambience for Tangerine Dream fans.
Not up to the standards of its competitors, a disappointing change of direction.
Hed Kandi - The Mix 2008
Dance & Electronic - House & Garage - 2007
Beyond The Dark - Ancara
Nice atmosphere and high production values.
Far too short, lacking in intensity and overly ballad-based.
Army Of Anyone - Army of Anyone
Reasonable enough modern rock.
Doesn't stand out.
Angels In America - Thomas Newman - Soundtrack
A perfect blend of traditionality with off-beat modernism
Fractured presentation with a couple of disruptive source songs
All Together Now - Argent
Mix of styles, as long as you're fond of organ rock.
Inconsistent.
A Diamond For Disease - Arsis
Title song is a brilliant long death metal piece.
Other half is essentially filler.
A Long March - As I Lay Dying
Previously rare material made available.
It's unrefined, unimpressive metalcore.
