In Through The Out Door - Led Zeppelin
A Strange Finale (475 words)by - written on 03/11/02
Rating:
band appeared to be the bases by which the experimental feel of 'In Through The Out Door' validated half baked ideas and a rudimentary failure to perpetuate their musical ideals. Zeppelin fans had become used to the variations and contrasts in the band's music, just listen to the 3rd and 4th albums as a prime example. Even their apogee, the titanic Physical Graffiti contained such musical diversifications from the funkiness of 'Trampled Underfoot', the full rock blast of 'The Wanton Song' to the rockabilly of 'Boogie With Stu' and the folkiness of 'Bron- Yr-Aur'. By 1979 Zeppelin seemed battle scarred. Page's ...

Rating:
jazz had ascended, rock bands went progressive. Enter the ten-minute guitar solo, the thirty minute song, the concept album, the rock opera. It saddens me to say that Led Zeppelin did not remain above this trend, and 'In Through The Out Door' stands testament to the damage done by prog rock on good old fashioned rock 'n' roll. Time for a closer look at the devastation: 1. In The Evening : Weighs in at nearly seven minutes, with about a minute of indeterminate 'atmosphere' noises before we get the opening riff. Whatever happened to the straight in with the riff days of 'Whole Lotta Love' or 'Good Times Bad Times'? What ...

Presence - Led Zeppelin

Well for starters I dunno what this is doing in the indie rock and punk bit but there ya go......right, this was the Zeppmeisters' seventh studio album and it was released on their own label Swan Song in 1976. It is undoubtedly their least remembered recording and it's fair to say it doesn't even begin to compare with the might of earlier works like The Runes, Houses and Graffitti, though it does have its moments, they are liberally sprinkled across the album and it's all a bit of a pick and mix. There are good reasons for this, Robert Plant, the singer, was injured in a car crash whilst on holiday in Greece in 1975 and sang the vocals here in a wheelchair in the Munich ...

With Fear I Kiss The Burning Darkness - At The Gates
Excellent guitar and drum performance, high in energy throughout.
Chaotic structure is problematic and detracts from the enjoyment.
Unquestionable Presence - Atheist
Tight performance without excess.
Too unpredictable for some.
The Doomsday Machine - Arch Enemy
A heavier sound than its predecessor, and the return of great guitars.
Most songs still fail to make the grade, and Gossow is worse here than ever.
Terminal Spirit Disease - At The Gates
Superb vocals, and lyrics, great song structure and hugely atmospheric
Quite short, though bolstered by some great live tracks.
Raiders Of The Ark - Astral Doors
Mostly unique material.
Samey.
Dead Eyes See No Future - Arch Enemy
Unique material, with some interesting covers.
Live versions are a little disappointing, and the Megadeth cover is terrible.
Burning Japan Live - Arch Enemy
A nice range of songs from the first three albums.
Too early for a live album, and there's nothing particularly exciting about it.
Boogie 2nite - Booty Luv
Shamelessly feel-good pop/dance music
Tracks very similar - simple recipe
Astralism - Astral Doors
A more energetic take on the Astral Doors sound.
Subject matter feels a little too arbitrary.
A Celebration Of Guilt - Arsis
Inventive and excellent melodic death metal.
Lack of variety for those used to the Gothenburg scene.
