Wire And Glass - The Who
by JJJJ - written on 07/02/09 (Very useful, 206 readings)
Rating:
Formed in 1964, The Who have undoubtedly been an influential musical force over the decades. Due to a combination of songwriting skills and destructive on-stage antics, the band from Shepherd s Bush have embedded themselves deep into the annuls of pop culture. I was lucky enough to see them perform a few years back - although it was a far cry from the original line-up which included the exuberant Keith Moon (d.1978 - sedative overdose) and John The Ox Entwistle who passed away on the eve of The Who s 2002 US tour after a cocaine-fuelled night with a stripper in Las Vegas. Nevertheless, the performance I saw was excellent, with the exotically named Pino Palladino ...

Who Are You - The Who

Rating:
Moonie's last album. His final drum roll. But what a way to finish. His drumming on The track Who Are You is phenomenal, pounding the skins for all he was worth. He'd cut back on drugs, drink and the rock n roll life style, and Who Are You the album is all the richer for it. (The title track is my favourite, as I've often "preached from my chair." Look.. I'm doing it now. Spooky.) A great long slice of excellent RnB, rock and roll, categorise it however you will, this is the track that from the first few chords reaches into your chest and pulls your heart out, while simultaneous forcing your head to bang in time to the beat. Watch yourself ...

Who's Next - The Who

Rating:
destruction, tales of madness, tales of.... well Keith Moon mostly. Not that the others weren’t charismatic, but anyway – I’m sure I could waffle on about all the members of The Who for half this opinion – the big nosed one, the quiet one, the hard one and the completely loony one, but I’ll try not to. Because here, on this record, their talents all came together and made one of the most definitive rock records of all time. I’ll take you through some of the real corkers and let you find out the rest for yourself (and trust me it’s worth it) – on with the show! The synthesiser comes in on the first track – ...
