Avalon - Roxy Music

Rating:
"Avalon" turned out to be one of the biggest selling Roxy Music albums ever, and it’s often the one that people quote as their favourite. Well – this is just my opinion, but – “Avalon” is one of their worst albums. Maybe not as bad as its predecessor "Flesh and Blood", but it’s still an album I hate listening to I wasn't that impressed by it when it first came out, and I especially dislike it now. I’m a great fan of the very early Roxy Music, especially the years when Brian Ferry/Eno collaboration was the thing that made them tick. From the burst of that first single “Virginia ...

Stranded - Roxy Music

Rating:
in some way to a hellish combination of elitism and insecurity. Whatever the reason, one of those pieces of work that has been lovingly carved in stone for posterity is Roxy Music s second album, For Your Pleasure, a striking collection that is both outrageous and dark, if at times a little indulgent. That album s reputation is as it should be but it does give rise to a puzzle; namely, why is it that Roxy Music s third album, Stranded, the band s first No 1, has so fallen off the radar and so failed to impress posterity like its illustrious predecessor? Stranded was the first milestone for Roxy Music. Soon after the release of For Your Pleasure in the spring of 1973 ...

For Your Pleasure - Roxy Music

Rating:
not to be outdone, Phil Manzanera tidies up with some hot, rocking licks. The track finally returns to the original theme and style just to remind you that it s Roxy Music and not the E -Street Band that you re listening to. A great live track but the studio version also rocks. Track 8 For Your Pleasure 8/10 * As the title track, it is perhaps not the strongest but provides an interesting finale to the album. It starts off simply enough with the guitar introducing the main motif in clear, vibrato almost worthy of the Shadows. Ferry joins in on the vocals and we have a few verses of normality. However, as the track progresses, the instruments fade away and we are left ...

Products similar to The Early Years - Roxy Music
Unspoken Dialect - Hondo MacLean
Fantastic mix of Metalcore and Post-Hardcore.
May be a little too heavy for some.
Three Imaginary Boys - The Cure
The cover of Foxy Lady is insanely good, Smith's take on new-wave/punk is different
A couple of the songs do little to stand out
The Merciless - Aura Noir
Old-school thrashy black metal for those who feel modern black metal has lost its way.
Short and lacking in originality.
Studio 1 - All Saints
Pop - Dance Pop - 2006
Ruiner - A Wilhelm Scream
A brilliantly unpredictable album which is always a joy to listen to.
Not a fan of Melodic Hardcore? Not one for you.
Loser - Ayreon
A great song from the new album, and a nice take on the older 'Castle Hall.'
Central two songs are fairly poor.
Impossible Princess - Kylie Minogue
A superb and personal album that is thought provoking and musically diverse
The fact that in the blink of an eye, this path was abandoned in favour of a return to pop
Day Eleven: Love - Ayreon
Generous and excellent representation of the forthcoming album, with well-chosen and diverse covers.
If metal opera isn't your thing, run to the hills.
Come Back To Me - Ayreon
First song is fun, in a silly sort of way.
B-sides aren't particularly good, and one of them is despicable.
Kino (A Star Called Sun) - Zvezdi po Imeni Solntse
Quality music, vocals, lyrics
Quite depressing
