      Great album.

      **Introduction**

Since the release of her debut album "Songs in A Minor" I have been a huge fan of Alicia Keys. Nine years later she has released hugely successful albums and is one of the R&B worlds biggest stars. She's also worked with some huge names like Usher, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Christina Aguilera, John Mayer, Jack White and several others. Having got engaged to "Swizz Beatz" she released her fourth studio album in 2009 after taking a break from Music to star in a couple of films, Most notably Smokin Aces.

      **The Element of Freedom**

This album was released on 11th December 2009 and as usual it features a stellar cast of producers and collaborators. The most notable of course is Jay-Z as well as Swizz Beatz and Kerry Brothers. The album was recorded between May-September 2009 at The Oven Studios, New York. The lead single from the album was the track "Doesn't mean anything" which was one of five singles from the album.

      **The Album**

      1.) Element of Freedom

This is the title track from the album and just introduces you to the album start. It sounds like it would have been a decent track if it was extended into a proper song.

      2.) Love is Blind

This track opens with a vocal which reminds me of Duffy if she could sing. The beat comes in and this is an excellent track about when you love someone but people around you don't think much of them. I like the mix of the beat and the gentle keys which I feel is a strong part of Alicia Keys music.

      3.) Doesn't Mean Anything

This is an excellent track, Alicia's gentle piano tone mix with a taut beat and some great percussion make for a very decent soundstage. This is a great trakc about life being a lot without someone you love. A great example that famous people are human to and value love. This was a huge single from the album. This track has a great message.

4.) Try Sleeping with a broken heart

This was the second single from the album and is a very catchy mid tempo ballad. Alicia's vocals develop very well throughout the lyrics and this is a very enjoyable track. The subject of the song is about rememering a relationship and trying to remember the good times more than the bad times which ultimately led to the end of the relationship. A great track.

5.) Wait Til you see me smile

This opens with a lovely Piano part from Alicia. Her vocals come in which leads into the fantastic drum beats which work well with her Piano tones. This is an example of her talent for progressing musically in the track. This one is about getting over a relationship and realising that you are no longer suffering and you are over them. A great moment to move on with your life.

6.) That's how strong my love is

This is a really beautiful piano led ballad which was solely written by Alicia herself. I love how the song develops, This song is about what you will do for someone you love. This is an example of her best work and is up there with the best on the album. It's a fantastic song lyrically, musically and vocally.

      7.) Un-Thinkable (I'm Ready)

This is a collaboration between Alicia and Canadian Rapper "Drake". This is a beautifully mellow track about realising you're falling in love with someone and have deep feelings for them. I really like this one and it's a surprising collaboration with Drake that works rather well with his backing vocals adding a nice touch. Another excellent track.

      8.) Love is my disease

This is another excellent track, It opens with strong vocals and some nice keys and guitar which is soon joined by the thumping drums. This track has a slight Reggae hint which adds a different feel. This track develops really well and is one of the best tracks on the album. Alicia's vocals are very strong.

      9.) Like the Sea

This is a catchy mid tempo track which has a nice feel. It contains a sample of "Arabesque No. 1", composed by Claude Debussy which of course brings in her love for Classical Music. This works really well with the heavy beats and adds a lot to the overall feel of the song. Another excellent track.

10.) Put it in a love song

This is a banging collaboration with Beyonce. The thump of the beat and the gentle keys really works well on this track made for clubs around the world. This is a fine Dancefloor filler which features two superb artists on form. Strong vocals, Strong beats and a melody that is incredibly catchy. An excellent up tempo track. A Fine Collaboration.

      11.) This Bed

This is a soulful track with a 90s vibe. This is an excellent up tempo track with some gentle guitar tones and keys with the catchy beats. I can picture the Music Video if one was made for this. It would be a hot summers day with Alicia a couple of female friends in a convertible car bopping their heads to the beat. Good stuff.

      12.) Distance and Time

I love this one. It has an excellent taut beat and some gentle keys. Alicia speaks in the intro and then her gentle vocals open. This is a lovely ballad about long distance love when your partner is away from you for a period of time. This is a clear indication of Alicia's talent and is a fine song. One of the best on the album for sure.

13.) How it feels to fly

This is another fabulous ballad, This time the beat is heavy, Alicia's piano tones are beautifully mellow and melodic. This is a beautifully heartfelt track with some great vocals. This track is about how you feel when you are in love. I really love the fusion between the heavy beat and lovely laid back piano. Brilliant track.

      14.) Empire State of Mind

This is the huge single which was the answer song to her duet with Jay-Z. This is a fabulous piano led track which contains a sample of "Love on a Two-Way Street" by The Moments. This particular version needs a few listens to get used to the differences. The drums begin towards the end and it's a rather vibrant end.

      **Overall**

This is another fine album from Alicia Keys, Her fourth album continues her growth as an artist and is more proof of of her talent. Overall it's been another hugely successful album and further establishes her as one of the great female R&B solo artists around today. The Element Of Freedom is another fantastic album and one of the best albums of 2009.

A Decent Album Just Nothing Special.

Again, Ive been meaning to write this review for absolutely ages now (3 months!) in fact I was the one who suggested it to Dooyoo. But anyway Ive never been great at writing music album reviews so bear with me here LOL, Im really going to try on this one. Back to Alicia Keys. I am a big fan of her music and this time of genre isnt usually my cup of tea but her I really do like. Her success speaks for itself really, this is her fourth studio album and it was released in late December 2009. Ive never actually listened to the whole of one her past albums before, Ive just heard her massive hits on the radio and absolutely loved them so I decided to give a whole album a go for once.

        1. The Element Of Freedom (Intro)

        2. Love Is Blind
This is quite an odd song because it has got so many different elements to it. The backing track is mainly the piano but it changes a lot throughout the song one minute being very fast and up tempo and then sinking into more of a balladbut there is a definate RnB element to this song. This is a song you will either love or hate but I really like it its very different to the other tracks on the album but different in a good way I like to think. ****.*

        3. Doesn't Mean Anything *****

        4. Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart
Another song that I really like and maybe because it is one of the few that does have the more classic slow RnB with quite catchy lyircs. I think I read somewhere this is due (or has just been) to be released as her next single, in fact I think it has and I bet it will be really popular. I'll certainly be listening to this in the future. ****.*

        5. Wait Till You See My Smile ***

        6. That's How Strong My Love Is
This is yet another song with a piano backing track although this is more of a ballad rather than an up temp RnB song. Nevertheless it is a pretty catchy song and as usual her voice really is amazing on this song. I did find myself wondering when things would get started with this one though because the chorus never really takes off like it could and that will make me quickly bored of the song. A nice song but I reckon it is easily forgetable. ***

        7. Unthinkable (I'm Ready) ***.*

        8. Love Is My Disease
This is probably the song I liked the least. It wasnt actually that bad but I just thought it was kind of boring and I think her voice really suits songs that have slightly more beat and tempo in them. Although what do I know? It wasnt that she sung terribly or the lyrics were bad because they really werent but I found that after about 30 seconds in I was already bored of the song and wanted to switch the track and I do think that had a lot to do with the background music. It didnt really have any beat or element to it at all and that bought the whole song down. *

        9. Like The Sea ****

        10. Put It In A Love Song (ft Beyonce)
I was expecting this to be a really good song because I love both of the artists on this duet and I thought they would work really well together. Now I know I said that I thought Alicia's voice suited up tempo tracks more with this one I was wrong. I think this is a little to fast paced and I just didnt like it. Beyonce sings very different tracks so it suited her a lot more, I think if it was a Beyonce track then I would have liked it much more. Having said that this track is very different to the rest of the album so I guess it makes a nice change. *.*

        11. This Bed ****

        12. Distance And Time
Now this is a good song and Im sure I would love it very much...if I was in a couple LOL. I hate songs like this when they are dedicated to a single group, or maybe Im just bitter? Again this a very slow classic ballad with the piano backing track that Ive come to expect from her. I cant fault her vocals again because they are amazingbut again like with so many other songs on this album I think it is pretty average and forgetable. ***

        13. How It Feels To Fly ***.*

        14. Empire State Of Mind (Part II)
All of us must have heard the hugely successful version of this song on which Alicia duets with Jay Z but this is a version where it is just Alicia singing. I loved the version with Jay Z and I know a lot of people actually prefer this one but I really dont. Instead of rapping and RnB beat you will find in the original in this one there is the piano in the background instead and rather than concentrating on the big chorus I think Alicia tries really hard to work on her vocals throughout as the song is slowed down. Her voice is amazing on this track but I didnt like it as much as the original. ***

Skip To: Doesnt Mean Anything, Love Is Blind & That's How Strong My Love Is
Skip Past: Love Is My Disease, Put It In A Love Song & Empire State Of Mind (Part II)

        Overall Opinion:
Overall this is a pretty decent album there is a handful of really great songs and inevitably a few bad ones which unfortunately seem to bring down the whole album really. Now Ive never listened to her earlier albums to see how this one compares but after hearing this one Im not in any real hurry to hear any more. I was expecting really great things from this album because I do like Alicia as an artist and I think she is a fantastic singer but something just lacked.

I think a bit more variety in the type of songs could have made the album better for me although some people would disagree and say to stick to what she knows music wise. A few songs I will definately listen to again but the others I will be in a hurry to forget about, I only listened to most of them again today to refresh my memory for this review!

A decent album but nothing spectacular.

        Thanks For Reading

The Element of Freedom - Alicia Keys

I have listened to Alicia Keys before and liked her and find her really quite talented but never before have I been tempted to buy one of her albums until now. What prompted me was the amazing song Empire State of Mind that I really enjoyed listening to on the radio and so bought the album on the back of that song and the rest of it does not disappoint either!

Alicia has been around since 2001 when her debut album, Songs in A Minor sold over 12 million copies worldwide making her the best-selling new artist and best-selling R&B artist of 2001.She has now won 12 Grammy awards to date and according to an article I read, Billboard magazine named her the top R&B artist of the 2000-2009 decade, establishing herself as one of the best-selling artists of her time.

The Element of Freedom is her fourth album. It was released in December 2009 and went to number 1 in the UK, her first to do so. The album pretty much sticks to her distinct style, a laid back R&B vibe. Another one of my favourite songs on the album is track number three, Doesn't Mean Anything which has also been released on the radio here. I love the fact that she is also a songwriter and has wrote all the songs on the album too and is not just a manufactured pop act that really has no musical talent. Keys is genuinely very talented and it shows in her music. It helps that she is very pretty too and the front of the album features a beautiful photo of her with her eyes closed wearing an amazing top made out of feathers.

I have read that some people think it is "not risky enough" or lacking enough "edge" but I like it and I think if you like the sound and the songs do something for you then it doesn't need to take risks if it's going to be well received by the majority of people.

The rest of the tracks are as follows:

          1. "Element of Freedom (Intro)"
          2. "Love Is Blind"

          3. "Doesn't Mean Anything"

          4. "Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart"

          5. "Wait Til You See My Smile"

          6. "That's How Strong My Love Is"

          7. "Un-thinkable (I'm Ready)"

          8. "Love Is My Disease"

          9. "Like the Sea"

          10. "Put It in a Love Song" (featuring Beyoncé)

          11. "This Bed"

          12. "Distance and Time"

          13. "How It Feels to Fly"

          14. "Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down"

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Miss Keys' best album so far: a consistently impressive set of compositions.

On her fourth studio album, "The Element Of Freedom," Alicia Keys demonstrates her immense talent to its full potential: the hooks are catchy; the instrumentation full; and the vocals raw and emotional. As best heard on the album closer "Empire State Of Mind (Part II) Broken Down," where Keys sings in praise of her home city, New York. Few can hear the belted chorus and not feel some sort of emotional connection to the track.
Similarly, every song on the album provides the listener with an emotional identification of some kind. Whether that be of optimistic early love in "Unthinkable (I'm Ready)," or temporarily separated love in "Distance And Time," or even lost love in "Doesn't Mean Anything." Each track is easily relatable to the many stages of a loving relationship; and, as a result, "The Element Of Freedom" can be defined as a versatile set able to cater to all of the listener's moods.

Great album from a great artist.

This is the latest album from the amazing Alicia Keys - a very talented
singer from whom you would expect an amazing album.... And she doesn't
            disappoint.

This album has an amazing combination of songs that culminate in the smash hit 'Empire state of mind Part 2'. Each song sounds like traditional Alicia Keys. It has the usual Alicia Keys sound, but you never once feel like
she's replicated any song she's done before.

It was released on the 11th December 2009, and it immediately flew to
number two on the American Billboard charts and number one on the UK charts selling 417,000 copies in its first week!

There are 14 tracks on the album, but the first one isn't a song - it is an
            introduction. These are: -
            1 Element of freedom intro.
            2. Love is blind.
            3. Doesn't mean anything.
            4. Try sleeping with a broken heart.
            5. Wait til you see me smile.
            6. That's how strong my love is.
            7. Un-thinkable (im ready)
            8. Love is my disease.
            9. Like the sea.
            10. Put it in a love song (featuring Beyonce).
            11. This bed.
            12. Distance and time.
            13. How it feels to fly.
            14. Empire state of mind (part 2).

My favourite songs are no 3, 6 and 10.

The cheapest ive found this is for £8 on play.com. If you've liked Alicia
keys before, then you wont be disappointed.

            Disadvantages

            Recomended overall.

A soulful, beautiful album flowing from one track to the next. Once again Alicia Keys has put together a talented collection of songs. Mainly about Love, they are gentle but empowering and I assure you you'll end up singing along to them all. She has so much elegance and her talent is proved again with this album. She does not need to take her clothes of or where shorts skirts to sell her music, her songs sell themselves. I worked in a music store while this album was being sold and It was the third best selling item in the whole store for 3 days running (which is pretty impressive) This is quite a romantic album and certainly one the girls. I also happen to think her version of "Empire state of mind" is a lot more credible than her version with Jay-z. The tracks can get a bit "samey" as they all have the same general mood to them but that is Alicia Keys' style and she writes and sings very well through this album. A very beautiful voice and talented lady.

            See Review

Right first up I've never been a fan of Alicia Keys, but after hearing the first 2 singles from this album (Doesn't mean anything and Try sleeping with a broken heart) and really liking them I though id give the Album a try and see if it would tickle my eardrums.

            Overview
The album starts off with a brief introduction from Alicia describing what she feels is the element of freedom. This leads into Love is blind a track as you would expect starts with a piano melody. It drops into quite a nice track very chilled and soulful, and definitely a great way to start the album.
The next track is the first single off the album.Doesn't mean anything is another well balanced track with the beats and piano melodies complimenting Keys vocal talents very well. This leads to Try sleeping with a broken heart which is the next single to be taken from the album. This starts off quite dark sounding before a hip hop beat kicks in.This is quite a tough sounding track quite aggressive for Alicia Keys.

Wait till the smile starts off with an almost ragtime sounding piano introduction. The beats are less aggressive on this song as its more about the vocals and what is being said. That's how strong my love is starts off with an almost classical music sounding intro. The whole track is quite epic and really has feeling to it ,simple but effective,Just Alicia and her piano singing a lush love song. The next song features Canadian rapper Drake, but he is here to compliment Alicia's vocals and does a great job not taking over the track which is what normally happens.

Love is my Disease Is an almost reggae sounding track, but still very chilled and epic sounding,a very chilled track.Like the sea is a dark sounding track the piano riff is quite haunting along with the sound effects and The key changing vocals.Put it in a love song features Beyonce , it starts off with the typical diva attitude and continues throughout , not catchy or chilled like the rest.

This Bed Picks up the pace a little with is funky beats and sound effects.Alicia takes it a to a more fun level, not so deep and serious like the other songs on the album.Distance and time slows things down again, its a very Mariah Carey sounding track, where everything is minimal except the vocals.Very relaxing melodies and vocals. How it feels to fly is another very soulful sounding track, with a teasing piano melody over simplistic beats.Empire state of mind Is a very soulful warm tune ,simply Just Alcia and her piano a great way to finish the album off.

            My Summary
I don't normally listen to thins sort of music but found my self drawn to this album after hearing the first 2 singles from it.My first concern was that it was going to be to repetitive ,just piano ,piano ,piano all the way through. And whilst the Piano does heavily feature in almost every tune i did not get bored of hearing it , nor did it sound repetitive.

As a whole the album is extremely listen-able.Its very chilled and relaxing overall but has just the right amount of punch to stop you from falling asleep. All of the songs vocal have been well though out and I got a sense of a story fitting each tune rather than just randomness about love etc.. Each track made me feel something different which was fantastic as I felt like I was being taken on a journey as opposed to listening to a CD.Id recommend listening to it if you need to de-stress or if you have a had a hard day as it will chill you right out.

I never even liked her earlier material but this really blew me away, the one floor i have is the track put it in a love song with Beyonce. It just didn't seem to fit with the rest of the album, apart from that I cant really fault it.For me the stand out tracks are defiantly try to sleep with a broken heart and This bed. Id highly recommend checking them out even if you are not a fan of hers.

I got the album for roughly £7 from Amazon and is defiantly a great purchase, I though I was taking a gamble but ending up purchasing a truly great album.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

Don't download the whole album, just a couple of songs

Alicia Keys - she hasn't got the image of Britney or the charisma of Beyonce, however, Alicia Keys encapsulates everything that an artist should do; she lets her music do the talking, leaving her personal shenanigans at the door. Although Alicia Keys doesn't have the charm and personality that you think of when you think R&B star, however Alicia's talent speaks for itself, since 2001 she has released 3 hugely successful albums and has gone on to be named one of the greatest artists of the last decade.

Released at the very end of 2009, The Element Of Freedom comes as Alicia's forth album and is Alicia's first attempt at branching out into the new decade. I must admit that although I've been a fan of Alicia Keys for several years I've never felt compelled to actually download one of her albums, however when recently trying to branch out with my musical tastes I took the leap and downloaded The Element Of Freedom. I have to admit this decision was mainly based on the lead single Doesn't Mean Anything which I found myself listening to continuously when it was released. Couple that with a superb duet with the king of hip hop himself, Jay Z and I was expecting this to be a brilliant album.

              1. The Element Of Freedom (intro)
              2. Love Is Blind
              3. Doesn't Mean Anything
              4. Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart
              5. Wait Till You See My Smile
              6. That's How Strong My Love Is
              7. Unthinkable (I'm Ready)
              8. Love Is My Disease
              9. Like The Sea
              10. Put It In A Love Song (ft Beyonce)
              11. This Bed
              12. Distance And Time
              13. How It Feels To Fly
              14. Empire State Of Mind (Part II)

The album begins on a jazzy note, Love Is Blind could have come straight out of the 60's with it's piano laden chords (which no doubt Keys plays herself), the pace and genre change dramatically during the chorus into a soulful R&B track, slow in its pace but impacting on the ears, this song is a real grower and undeniably one that you'll find difficult to get out of your head, despite it's uncharacteristically un-catchy nature of the song itself. A song on a similar scale, Love Is My Disease is another slow burner in which Keys lets her voice lead, with the background music, being that just - background music. Despite an amazingly strong start the song eventually drifts into obscurity and is hard to distinguish through some of the more recognisable tracks on the album. It is however beautifully sung with emotion laden lyrics occupying the entirety of the running time, if you're into slow burning songs then you may enjoy it but I personally feel there are so many better songs on the album of the same genus that this one could possibly be overlooked in favour of some of the more 'catchy' tracks on the album.

There is a distinct lack of collaborations, I'm not sure if this the norm with Alicia Keys' albums as I've never heard any others. I was expecting Empire State Of Mind, the worldwide smash hit collaboration with Jay Z to be included on the album, however Alicia's opted to include, what she calls a broken down version of the track entitled Empire State Of Mind Part II. It's a real grower which escalates when she breaks into the echoing chorus which no doubt you will be familiar with already. In some ways I feel that this could actually be better than the original, with the piano taking place of the heavy beat which works with Jay Z's rapping. This is a laid back tune that's nice to listen to but apart from the chorus it's unmemorable. The only collaboration we get on the album is with Mrs Jay Z herself, yes Beyonce, possibly the biggest name in music at the moment features on the album on what had the potential to be the standout track of the album. Their voices blend perfectly together and this is no doubt a duet with enough star power in it to power Las Vegas, unfortunately these two may be forces to be reckoned with on their own, yet Put It In A Love Song doesn't seem to resonate with me. It's an up-tempo tune, with a beat similar to Beyonce's smash Single Ladies. The song doesn't really have a place on the slow tempo album and the song as a separate entity, catchy as it is, falls short from what you'd expect from two of the biggest names in music.

How It Feels To Fly sounds extremely similar to LeAnn Rimes modern anthem How Do I Live, the song itself isn't a remake as Alicia takes co-writing credit. It's another slow-tempo love song with a marching beat that runs throughout its entirety however I personally find it to be a very dull song and is generally one that I skip by when it comes on. Distance and Time is marginally better, it takes on the same focus as recent Whitney song Worth It, dedicating itself to all the couples. It personally always makes me cringe when artists feel the need to dedicate their songs to a large group of people. Not only does it alienate people but it can also be very depressing. Unfortunately too many songs take on this focus, the sugar sweet love songs have never been my thing, I'll either gel with them or I wont and unfortunately there are too many on this album that simply fall flat. There is no denying Keys has an amazing voice, but on the other hand so does Beyonce, yet Beyonce still encompasses a range of different styles in her albums which are bound to suit everyone.

This Bed is a nice break from form, it's a mid-tempo track with an upbeat melody. Keys vocals suit this sort of song down to the ground so it's a shame she doesn't go down this road more often. It's clear that Keys gets a lot of inspiration from Whitney Houston, there are a couple of songs throughout the album (This Bed included) that could have come straight off a Whitney album. Wait Till You See My Smile is a definite highlight on the album, with an Akon like 'woo' coming from Keys throughout the song, to the crescendo it breaks into during the bridge. This is a winner and although I can't see it as single material it's a really uplifting song that I never tire of hearing. Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart has been named as the follow up single to Doesn't Mean Anything, it's not something that I really connected with on first listen, but by second and third listen I found myself getting really into this song. It's an understated love song that you'll either strike a chord with or you wont. It's a really classy song and another highlight on the album.

The first single released from the album Doesn't Mean Anything, is really the reason that I downloaded this album in the first place and it's never one that I tire of hearing. I'd even go as far as saying it was one of my favourite songs of 2009 and that doesn't seem to be changing in 2010. This is yet another love song but is without doubt the stand out track of this pretty disproportionate album. This is the only song that you're likely to be able to sing along with and has, not only an R&B appeal but a pop appeal too. It hasn't been her biggest hit which in a way I understand, it doesn't have the finesse of the likes of Fallin' or No One but for me this is bound to go down as one of her classic tracks.

Onto another favourite of mine on the album, Unthinkable is a downtrodden R&B laced song with smooth a classy piano and smooth R&B beats behind it which make this almost an edgy song that I wasn't expecting from Alicia Keys. The problem with this song is that I can't imagine many people liking it as much as me, although I have a mainstream R&B taste I also have an alternative and somewhat understated taste and the music behind this song encapsulates everything that I like about the alternative R&B scene. This of course wont resonate with everybody's tastes but it's without doubt a favourite of mine with a lot of longevity. Love Is Like The Sea is both the most meaningful and the most catchy tune on the entire album, Keys compares love to the sea with how it can take you over whilst also taking you under. The lyrics really resonate with me on a personal level and it's one of those songs that relies mainly on the beat again coupled with the piano to keep this above water (pardon the pun). This is a perfect example of when everything comes together and makes a perfect concoction of lyrics and music to make a haunting tune that does Alicia's vocals and music ability justice.

Overall this album didn't really do much for me, out of the 14 tracks I'd say I like about half of them, but in the long term there's only about 3 I can see myself still liking this time next year. Despite this being the first album of Alicia's that I've bought, this was pretty much what I was expecting song wise, with the singles she's released they're all along the same genre, that's the problem with Alicia Keys - she has all the talent in the world but severely lacks variety. Out of the 4 albums she has released (including this one) The Element Of Freedom is the only one that failed to reach number one in the US, therefore maybe this could be a wake up call for Alicia Keys to add some variety to her next album. I wouldn't say that I dislike this album because there are a good few songs that I genuinely like, however I would say that unless you're familiar with and liked Alicia's previous albums then it could possibly be wise to avoid this. I would recommend you download Love Is Like The Sea if you're just looking for one or two downloads.

The album is available to download from iTunes for £7.99.

My fave album at the minute

I recently saw Alicia Keys on a late night music programme for channel 4 and remembered how much I love her music. Keys' fourth album 'The element of freedom' was released on 15th December 2009 and was her first album that didn't make the #1 spot in its first week.

                  "Stolen Moments" - 4:52 (Target/iTunes/Japan only)
                  "Heaven's Door" - 3:18 (Japan only)

Both of the songs released as singles from the album so far as 2/4 of my favourites.
Single #1 - Doesn't mean anything - Keys sings about how meaningless everything is without the love of her life.

                  'Take these material things
                  They don't mean nothing
                  Its you that I want'

A broken relationship is the main topic of this song and all the girl wants is to have her man back in her life, saying that she doesn't care about anything at all without him there with her. The reason why I love this song so much is because I've been there after a break up and nothing makes any sense for a while because everything is so different from what you are used to.

Single #2 - Try sleeping with a broken heart - This song is all about to deal with heartbreak and how hard it is to go to bed with a million feelings going around in your head. This girl lays in bed each night still feeling her ex there and thinking about everything they have ever done together whether it was good or bad. She just wants to be able to remember the good things so she can get through one more night. Even though this has quite an upbeat tempo, the words are extremely beautiful and meaningful.

Put it in a love song is the song that stands out from the rest of the tracks on the album. This is an up tempo song with a happier feel to it unlike most of the other songs and it features Beyonce. For me, this is a collaboration made in heaven and I know from watching an interview with Keys that she has wanted this to happen for a long time but the timing has never been right. Some collaborations aren't even recorded with both artists in the same room but this one was and you can tell they both vibe off of each other. The song is all about the girls wanting a man to prove their love but not in any old way. Any man can give flowers or jewellery but writing a love song about them really shows how much they care and that they have gone to a lot of effort.

Keys had another successful collaboration earlier in the year with Jay Z and 'Empire State of Mind' and this album has a broken down version of the song with Keys' vocals alone. This one takes Keys' solo parts in the first version and draws it out in a slow and seductive way. The flow is very smooth to begin with but then goes harder into the chorus but not as hard hitting as it was the first time around. I loved the original version of this song but this version is just as good in a different way.

This is a beautifully written album and the passion and emotion behind each song is very clear. Keys has an amazing voice that just gets better each time I hear her sing. Her talent doesn't stop there though as she writes her own songs and we all know what a fantastic pianist that she is. She has really come a long way since her first album many years ago and I already cant wait for whatever she does next. Fantastic album.
