In 2001 it looked like Mariah Carey’s career was over. Her film ‘glitter’ and its soundtrack bombed spectacularly, the publicity she needed for it overshadowed by the 9/11 terrorist attacks. America, and its biggest selling female artist broke down. For the next few years Mariah Carey was thought of as mad and with the release of another album with poor sales in ‘Charmbracelet’ the writing looked like it was on the wall for her. She was being seen more as a demanding diva who ‘didn’t do stairs’ or had to have puppies delivered to her dressing room. However, with over 100 million album sales behind her and of course nobody forget Mariah actually is an exceptionally gifted ... Read the complete review

The release of The Emancipation of Mimi marks the pivotal point which resurrected Mariah Carey's lapsing music career after the release of Glitter (2001) and Charmbracelet (2002) which both failed to impact and impress upon on the music charts in the fashion which you would expect of a global world class musician. Indeed the title of the album points to Mariah's struggle to break free of the grey whirlwind of media reports speculating on her personal wellbeing and panning her two previous studio albums and their lacklustre sales. The Emancipation of Mimi may very well be the biggest musical comeback within the R&B and Pop worlds respectively of this ... Read the complete review

If CDs were judged by their covers, The Emancipation Of Mimi would without a doubt be one of the best albums of all-time. Seeing Mariah Carey, the diva the world had all but written off, stood glowing in figure-hugging gold and looking almost as bronzed herself, there's little doubt that Mariah is one of the world's most stunning women - but can the music live up to this tremendous cover art masterpiece? As with every other Mimi album up until the point of TEOM, the first track is the lead single, this time the club-infused It's Like That. The song boasts a slightly crunkish sound, balanced with the smooth R&B listeners have come to expect from MC. It's a ... Read the complete review

The Emancipation of Mimi is a nice little album by the diva of divas Mariah Carey. The album features fifteen tracks. The best of these tracks is WE BELONG TOGETHER, a nice slow song good for a romantic night. I also liked SAY SOMETHIN' featuring SNOOP DOGG as Snoop's rap really goes with the song. GET YOUR NUMBER is a good track with Jermaine Dupri adding vocals to rival Mariah's. CIRCLES is another beautiful track where Mariah's vocal talents are emphsised at their best as they are with I WISH YOU KNEW and JOY RIDE. SHAKE IT OFF is a great dance number. The album kicks off with IT'S LIKE THAT a song that really kicks in ... Read the complete review

I was a little hesitant about buying this album- I had already got 'It's like that' and the conclusion to that song, 'We Belong together' which were both utterly amazing, and I thought perhaps the rest of the songs in her album wouldn't match these. However I was totally wrong- I'd say this was one of the best things I've bought this year in the music department. There is a definite beat and rythm to these songs which I havn't herd in a long time. Also, I must say that her videos touchwood have been amazing too. 1. It's like that: 9.5/10- really good, especially her video 2. We Belong Together: 10/10- In my opinion the best on this album- really ... Read the complete review
