A decent solo effort from Radiohead's front man (The Eraser - Thom Yorke)

Advantages: Many of the songs are beautiful, Thom's voice is in top form

Disadvantages: A couple of average songs (Skip Divided/Atoms for Peace)

The Eraser sees Thom Yorke develop the sound he started to create in Hail to the Thief's glitchy patches, mixed with Kid A's minimalism. Most of the album recorded on a laptop, you still manage to be treated to a beautiful sound scape by one of the forerunners of music.

The Eraser's title track is a beautiful piano piece with lots of laptop effects which give the C.D an atmosphere from the get go, it sounds claustrophobic but welcomingly so. The last minute of synthesized piano is absolutely brilliant and is a fine moment on the album.The sound oozes out of your speakers and almost dances around your ears. Analyse reminds me of a song that should have been included in the Lion King for some reason and has beautiful lyrics " A self-fulfilling prophecy of endless possibility / You roll in reams across the street." or "There's no spark/no light in the dark/it gets you down." You feel Thom can be very personal at times before going into the abstract lyrics he is somewhat famed for. The album ducks and dives all over the place, from the brilliant to the average, but the brilliant far outweighs the latter.
Overall, the album works better as a collective than as individual songs in the main, but this is a must buy for Radiohead fans, and I would encourage fans of more experimental music to check it out.

Summary: A stirring wake up call to other male soloists to buck up their ideas.
