Advantages: lost of well known ballads and upbeat numbers, some trus classics

Disadvantages: Some less well known tracks, most of us have most of the well known tracks already

It’s hard to know where to start with a review of a Michael Jackson album, especially another ‘best of’, as most of us probably have the majority of these tracks on other albums. That said, they do have a certain appeal and a way of sounding fresh and exciting, even when some are around 30 years old. It’s also hard to say what the future holds for Jackson in light of recent events. I am sure his fan base will stay true to their hero, but those of us who are less sure of him may well move on. I’m sure this album was released to remind us just what a musical talent Michael Jackson really is, and it certainly does that!

There are 38 tracks altogether over the 2 cds and range from the Jackson hits such as ‘ABC’ right up to his more recent solo offerings of ‘Heal the world’ and ‘Black or white’.

I have to say that some of these tracks really please me personally (ballads such as ‘Got to be there’ and ‘She’s out of my life’ and upbeat numbers such as ‘Thriller’ and ‘Wanna be startin’ Somethin’) and one of the main reasons for buying it was for the gorgeous song ‘Ben’ (even if it was written about a rat!). It’s the kind of album that you can sing along to and leave on as background music when friends call round because everyone knows and loves these hits.

Okay, so there are a few lesser known ones amongst the top sellers such as ‘In the closet’ and ‘They don’t care about us’ and possibly a free classics missed off too but for a man who has been singing since he was 10, this is a very good taste of his expertise. I will include a track listing as I feel it’s important in making a potential buying decision, and I’d be very surprised if anyone out there knows less than 10 of these tracks.

He's written some great music but I'm afraid that I don't really enjoy most of his early work. There are few Jacksons songs to which I would normally listen so I guess this album won't be entering my collection.

I think with the slight popularity of this album and its respectful chart entry at number 2 a few weeks does show that he could still sell records. The reason this may not have sold as well is we just had the number 1's 2 years ago and most of those songs are here! JamesD22:o)
