Rating:

rock style of more recent big-hitters like Isis, Cult Of Luna, Pelican, Mastodon and the hundreds of others that followed in their wake. From their hardcore punk roots Neurosis have pioneered a progressive metal style that merges psychadelic doom, folk music and hypnotic tribal drums to create a truly unique sound. The songs consist of lethargic, crushingly heavy metallic riffs backed up by simple but accomplished drums full of cymbal splashes and tribal rhythms. Plenty of good songs Not the most varied album in the world

Excellent guitars and vocals, Fun, upbeat heavy metal, Departure from Black Sabbath Some weak linksNot to everyone's taste

Some beautiful riffs and enjoyable chugging doom sections, solid if overpolished production Low on innovation, feels devoid of any real passion

Great songstructure, hugely atmospheric, good use of minimalism Cheap-sounding drum machine may put some people off

Some catchy tunes Voice is a bit annoying, musically not really outstanding
