I feel that DMX is strong at bringing out tracks where he just states how hard he is unlike many others, because his roughness sounds more convincing and probable than from many others. Also with his mental health issues, it just makes his more intimidating. He uses his animalistic sound effect throughout to back himself up and bring hype as he appears to have no fear at all, so is willing to risk anything in whatever beefs he starts up. With his first three albums all coming in rapid succession between 1998 and 1999, DMX took his time in creating his fourth; "The Great Depression", in 2001, in which he chose that to some degree, the liveliness of his third album should be cut short in order to return to his hardcore beginnings, which actually began as early as 1992. 1.
