... the album does seem to have a few themes running through them. A few of the songs such as No Danger and Accused of Stealing seem to be about relationships breaking down. I get a sense of themes running through the songs. The themes of light and dark, hope and depression seem to shine through a lot. You will have quite a bleak verse then a more optimistic chorus. The first three tracks on the album, The Past that Suits You Best, Accused of Stealing and American Trilogy really show this. The Past that suits you bes...more

would like to introduce you to one of my favourite bands. Unless you are really into indier music or were a John Peel listener I doubt you would have heard of the Delgados, (the only band ever to name themselves after a Tour De France Competitor), as they have never had a top 40 single or album. I thought I would review their third album, the Mercury Prize nominated Great Eastern, because it truly is a masterpiece. Who are the Delgados. The Delgados were a Scottish indie band who formed around about the mid 90s and founded the Chemikal Underground label. Unfortunately they split last year. What the hell are they putting in the whisky in Scotland at the moment? To Belle & Sebastian, Travis, Teenage Fanclub, Mogwai, Idlewild and Primal Scream you can now add the Delgados to the ever growing list of Scottish bands that are currently making very important music. The Great Eastern follows on from the Delgados promising debut 'Peleton' that housed the wonderful 'Everything Under the Water'. It is a staggering effort that will melt the hearts of all listeners. Something New. Something Borrowed.

Two big-name DJ's strut their stuff in this double CD compilation. Some excellent tunes, and still retains some credibility even though it is a commercial release. Certainly not easily-accessible listening, those who were expecting 40 "Operation Blade" soundalikes are seriously deluded!

34 unmissable house tracks that you just cannot live without. All big club hits. A good length of CD. There are only 34 tracks. I cannot really think of anything bad about it other than that. The music is all great. There sin't ONE song that lets it down. the case is a little awkward sometimes, but not impossible. Long live Pete Tong!.. or not?
