Advantages: all her hits

Disadvantages: her looks

Cher is one of those ladies who always manages to reinvent herself and keep surprising the public. This album gathers some of her biggest hits to date.

Who is she?

American born Cher was once part of the duo Sonny and Cher, before launching her own successful singing career. Cher has also found fame in movies, being nominated for an Oscar for her role in 'Moonstruck.'

The start of the album finds her doing seven week number one hit 'Believe.' It's vocoder madness and has dated, but the song still pulls the punters at a nightclub, so it is worth a listen. The production is strong and the song is hook laden to the hilt.

Her song from the film 'Mermaids' is very camp, I am not hure what shoop shooping is, but she does it with style and the girly backing vocals give it a delicious sixties twist. For something totally different, her power ballad 'If I Could Turn Back Time' reeks of shulder pads and big hair and is one of those songs you have to strut around to in tight leather.

'Love Hurts' is an outright stormer in which Cher pours out her heart, she gets so wobbly on the last verse that you think she is going to explode! A similar display of such overwrought emotion can be heard on 'Just Like Jesse James.'

Cher moves away from the power ballads and delves into disco for 'Strong Enough' and 'Dove L'Amour', both of which work really well as dancefloor fillers, though that wretched vocoder makes a comeback!

Not a fan of her big duet 'Love Can Build A Bridge' which is way too plodding and sickly, if you're after something slower, the subtler 'I Got You Babe' showcases early Cher, Her vocals are more restrained and Sonny's input is invaluable.

This is a strong best of, 19 songs and some fancy artwork should please Cher fans.

Summary: splendid pop

I liked her soft rocky stuff.
