I quite like Texas (named after the Wim Wenders film Paris, Texas), I am not a massive fan though so their albums normally hold little attraction for me as I only really like the songs they have released as singles, so this is the ideal choice for me as they are all here without the filler tracks I would normally have to wade through, that is unless the three new previously unreleased tracks turn out to be rubbish! They (by they I mean Sharleen Spiteri and Johnny McElhone, who used to be in fellow Glaswegian band Altered Images) have now been around for 13 years which slightly surprises me. This album was released in November 2000, and until I was pushed into ... Read the complete review

Having re-invented themselves with such staggering success, Texas have taken the natural, and obvious, approach with this this perfectly-timed Greatest Hits CD. 1999's The Hush proved that White On Blonde's achievements were no fluke, and wisely this CD plays to their commercial strengths, even if it does attempt to rewrite their past in the process. With a bounty of recent Top 20 hit singles to choose from, it was never on the cards that Texas would seek to include some of their earlier, rockier, releases. And so the absence of In My Heart, You Owe It All To Me and Thrill Is Gone is not unexpected. The 3 new recordings, including ... Read the complete review

This cd is really quite good. I guess that it is absolutely brilliant if you are a die-hard Texas fan, I am a fan, but not that big a fan, but this is still good. I have really only heard of the hits, and the songs which are not familiar, are good, but not really up to the standard of the hits, but I think that I will get used to them! I do like the "guitar song" - it reminds me of something... the beginning sounds like the beginning of that old "je'taime" song. If you manage to get hold of the limited edition album, which I did, it comes with a great cd which has adequate remixes of the big hits, BUT as a great bonus has 3 ... Read the complete review

The first highlight to this band is quite blatantly the beautiful Sharleen Spiteri, a lady that only now seems to be getting the babe recognition that she deserves!! But now onto the actual album!! I first started listening to Texas from the coveted and highly popular 'White on Blonde' Album which really re launched Texas into the spotlight, and since then I have bought every single that they have graced us with. The best of the best make up the album, with the restful 'Say What You Want', and the more up tempo 'Halo', and the amazing 'Black Eyed Boy'. But the best new track on the Album has to be 'In Demand', at ... Read the complete review

Not so long ago, if you'd asked someone in the street to name a Texas song, most of them (like me!) wouldn't have had a clue, even though Texas have been around for years. Just recently though, they seem to have found something new, and have once again been close to topping our charts. I don't know if maybe I'm just a bit ignorant, but there were loads of tracks on this album that I knew, but never realised that it was Texas who had sung them! The CD is good value with 16 tracks, although the song "Say What You Want" is repeated in two versions. This is forgivable though as the two versions make it sound like two completely ... Really works as a whole album, Browne was hitting his stride.
Could do with a digital spruce up and a dip into the vaults for extra material.

Beautiful, intelligent folk style songs.
Short tracks. Some songs quite sombre.
