Dis Is Da Drum - Herbie Hancock

drum loops and samples. It has a tribal feeling with tribal style vocal samples and traditional instruments like the shekere, berimbau and djembe. "Shooz" is almost entirely percussion, with H Herbie Hancock not playing and instruments and lasts just over a minute - a nice little aside in the music. Following "shooz" is the melody. It s a hip-hop track with underlying piano and sax, merging the two genres perfectly. Not many musicians can pull off scratch dj s alongside jazz piano! not heard of Herbie before. But I found him on a film soundtrack (I forget which one), but the track was called people music. A lovely song, jazz influenced with a Latin flavour. I spent a while looking for some stuff by him, and found his Cantaloupe Island album in an Indy record shop in Newquay. Its full of really good ...
