The Man Comes Around: American IV - Johnny Cash
by GoFigure - written on 12/02/09 (Very useful, 12 readings)

If you purchase only one Johnny Cash CD... let it be this one. I grew up on Johnny Cash, my mum s favourite singer, unfortunately, like all teens, I turned my back on my mum s style of music and embraced bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Sting, etc... And then, a few years ago, I heard the song HURT on the radio. I was touched, my heart ached from all the sadness and desperation that poured from that song, and that sensation was one I hadn t felt in many, many years. I ll admit, I purchased the CD for that song alone... shame on me once again for underestimating Mr. Cash s enormous talent. I had forgotten just how powerful a presence ...

Solitary Man: American III - Johnny Cash
American III : Solitary Man (691 words)by - written on 21/04/01
Rating:
To be honest I'm not familiar at all with Country style music, but I do know that Johnny Cash is a legend. He's a legend of music in general, as well as being a very credible C&W artist with more grit and edge than the mainstream stuff. I came across a few tracks of this album on a radio show recently but I came to hear the whole album a few times when my Dad got it. I was interested to hear it because of the well known cover versions and for me, these were the highlights. Three of the songs I know well - U2's "One", "The Mercy Seat" originally by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds and the Tom Petty song, 'I Won't Back Down'. The ...
