Good News For People Who Love Bad News - Modest Mouse

Rating:
This was the first Modest Mouse album that I got my hands on, I d heard so much hype about the band from various media sources and friends. At first really didn t know what to think about this album, I loved the more melodic songs songs like Float On , World at Large and One Chance but was confused by the more unusual, schizophrenic, tracks like The Ocean Breathes Salty and Black Cadillacs . However, I was sure that I liked the album as a whole and stuck to it, playing it in my car and at work (when possible). In no time at all I was hooked, the songs that I originally loved remained high in my opinion but it was the more schizophrenic, dynamic tracks that ...

Coming out of Seattle, Washington State, this band have been around for a few years now but this is their major label debut. It was released early 2004 on Sony and appeared high on many Albums Of The Year list. It's hard to pin a tag on this musically, and perhaps that's what the band intended. Lots of different styles and instruments, including banjos, a horn section and on one track a baby gurgling is the only background you can hear. The underlying style is ...

Rating:
Saturday while flicking through some cd's on a stall in Temple Bar I spotted an advance promo of 'The Moon & Antarctica' going for a quid. Modest Mouse are very hard to classify because 'The Moon & Antarctica' points in so many disparate directions. The album contains more genres than the average band adopt in a decade. Because of this Modest Mouse never come close to being conformists. The only problem seems to be that they'll really have to surpass themselves to improve on this release. The reason, well, over the course of the album they out chilli the peppers, are more violent than some femmes and prove much harder than several popular ...
