Advantages: Many good songs, Catchy
Disadvantages: Not so good songs all blend into one
First off, sorry for the heinously terrible title. I was never creative or humorous enough to think of a catchy title. Don?t let it put you off the CD. And, talking of which, lets get started. I am a cheapskate. And an unadventurous cheapskate at that. When it comes to music these characteristics merge creating complete shut down on buying albums. I have a nasty habit of sticking to what I know and as a result of this most of my albums are copies off friends who have said they are good. Though, recently I had a sudden influx of CDs because I went to Russia (don?t ask) and albums were about £3, which even I could handle. Not that this almost inability to buy means I don?t like music; quite the opposite, I doubt I could get through every day without it. I rely on the music listen to to cheer me up, calm me down, and send me to sleep or wake me up. Right, we will stop with this train of thought as it?s getting dangerously close to a religious studies essay and I doubt that?s what you?re wanting to hear. There was a point to that rambling thing (an introduction only in the loosest sense of the word) you?ve just spent a while trawling through, that is that music can suit your moods. And this CD is very versatile. I personally enjoy it as a waking up CD but obviously it?s a very personal thing. But, to jump back on board the fast disappearing point to this review, let us begin at the beginning, for the sakes of any chronological enthusiasts reading this. 1) Flat on the floor. Now this is what I?m talking about for a wake up song. Shouty, catchy enough but not too complicated. By no means a bad song, though it doesn?t really stand out as amazing. However, it does a good job at getting you in the mood for the rest of the album, and in my case, waking you up ready for the rest of it. Sorry, these waking up references are just going to reverberate throughout this review. It?s my subconscious desire to be asleep talking. Filter them out as you g
o. 2) Do this anymore Yup, Yup, perfectly likeable song. I?d say I prefer it to Flat on the Floor but then again it?s not my favourite. I?m very indecisive, in case you hadn?t already guessed. But to summarise the song, good to sing along to and easy enough to pick up as there are plenty of ?woah woah wooahhhh?s and ?yeah, ahhhh?s which mean you can sing along like a pro after just a few listens!!! You lucky thing!!! 3) Someday Is there any point in writing anything about this? You must have heard this, and in my mind with good reason. But, in case you are a hermit living in Albania, this is a, erm, good song. Sorry, I just hate being too forthcoming with praise. It was one of my resolutions to be more complimentary though, so let?s this song is really good. Woah, that cost me. 4) Believe it or not Not particularly strong song, not particularly weak song, good song, sing along song, good enough lyrics, catchy enough tune. You get the picture. The only confusing point is that it appears to stop halfway through and then start again, thus leaving you wondering if it really has finished when it does and so missing out on the first part of?. 5) Feelin? way too damn good Love this song. Probably because it kinda exactly describes this situation I am in. But don?t let me get started on that or we will be here all night. But even if you are not a heart troubled teenager you can warble along to this, again you have probably heard it at some point already but it really doesn?t deteriorate with further listening, in fact it has improved for me. Sorry this is about as one sided as you can get. But trust me, good song. Ok we?ll stop right there or I?ll start repeating myself. And then I?ll start repeating that I?m repeating myself, which is always a bad sign. 6) Because of you Like this song too. Although the chorus gets a little grating after a while. But if you?re in a violent mood and want to sing about blame, t
his is your song. 7) Figured you out Now this makes my top 3 I reckon. I just like it. You might hate it and past a comment saying, ?What are you on about you prattling pillock, this song is utter codswhollop.? But I hope you don?t, partly because I hope that both pillock and codswhollop are now out of common circulation and are only used by my mother and people who use ?poot? as an expletive. But to get back to the song in question, I like it because the tune is simple enough for me to grasp but varied so that you don?t feel the urge to smash the CD player if they sing that run of notes just one more time. And I just love the first line?don?t ask. Just buy the CD (or, for you fellow cheapskates, download this song and then go buy the CD because I believe in supporting the music industry). 8) Should have listened A slow song, but actually quite a good one. Can?t beat ?Feelin? way too damn good? for me but then that could be just me. I personally like this one, you can sing along and really inject some feeling and almost feel remorseful (I think that?s the right word, unless that?s a kind of rash that you need to put ointment on in which case it is obviously not the word I was grasping for). Plus it has the clear advantage it?s in my sort of octave, which is always nice; it means I?m not quite cracking the windows or not really changing note at all and rumbling away as I croon. 9) Throw yourself away This isn?t a particularly bad song and in fact is quite a good song really, but it just doesn?t do it for me. Takes all sorts, but I generally skip this one if I?m not just using the CD for background music. My dad says there is ?good separation? in the introduction. There, a bit of side information for you. 10) Another hole in the head I prefer this one. Don?t ask why, the songs aren?t even that different, but I just like this one. Not overmuch. Just, well, enough. Another good aggression song, best played loud or it
just sounds a bit weak and a little pathetic. Catchy hook (I feel so professional saying that! Simple things?) 11) See you at the show I do like this one though I never usually get round to hearing it so every time I do it has a pleasant novelty value. While I would not describe the lyrics as ?inspired?, the tune is not bad and the chorus really is quite catchy regardless of the words you?re belting out. Not quite sure why but it makes me feel powerful singing it, absolutely no ideas at all. But I would appreciate knowing if anyone else feels that. Or if it, like so many things, goes on the list of ?weird things I and only I do?. And so, to sum up, this is actually a very good album, in fact it deserves a trip to the thesaurus to pull out?. Estimable! Superb! Tremendous! Seriously, I do actually feel glad I have this in my large collection of CDs and it is a regular performer in my CD player. Go out and buy it.
