This is another fantastic soundtrack by Howard Shore. I thoroughly enjoyed the soundtrack to the first LOTR film and bought this CD before the Two Towers actually came out in the cinema. I wasn't disappointed! However, Gollum's song (performed by Emiliana Torrini) was rather confusing until I saw the film (and still then). It's a far more martial soundtrack than for the first film, still of a generous length and featuring stunning musicians. The CD features 19 tracks, paced chronologically in the order of the film. I would thoroughly recommend this soundtrack, as it evokes the films and is very very satisfying of itself. ...

Images of an immense stretch of rugged snow-capped peaks flit into mind as distant strings usher you into the fantasy world of Middle-earth. The strings gradually rise in a crescendo, then a pounding orchestral piece sweeps us into the heart of the action – where Gandalf faces off the Balrog in the deep mines of Moria. The ensuing choral rendition lends resounding dramatic impact to the dizzying plunge through the chasm. All in all, an impressive opening to this soundtrack.
