bluesy rock merchants The Black Crowes show themselves to be subject to the law of diminishing returns. Early releases such as the strutting debut single JEALOUS AGAIN, sound alright but as the record progresses, the songs become more forgetable and anachronistic.By the final track you could be listening to any old group of ...

I can remember The first time I heard this album. Man, these guys are going to rock forever, was my opinion to all my friends. The line up changed after this album and my credibility sunk to ankle level. Still a cracking album though... This is the kind of blues rock that the world has waited for. Anguished, raw, edgy and this is me just talking about the lead singer! I first heard him singing their single release "Hard to Handle" which I temporarily didn't recognise as being, the great man, Otis Redding's hit from way back. This was powerful and down right dirty sounding. Well, okkkaaaaaaaaay <grinning from ear to ear>. I went forth and bought ...

From Atlanta in the same state as The Georgia Satellites, The Black Crowes lent their weight to the proposition that a serious 1972 revival was underway, much as The Quireboys where starting in the UK. Youngsters abetted by former Allman and current The Rolling Stones sideman Chuck Leavell on keyboards, The Black Crowes sing and play so well that the fact that they have lifted whole chunks of several records of yesteryear doesn't m\tter. Brothers Chris Robinson (vocals) and Rich Robinson (guitar) Robinson owe a great deal to their dad's Joe Cocker albums and even more to the genes that have bestowed upon Chris Robinson a voice to rank with Paul Rodgers or that ...

Vargstenen - Manegarm
Lives up to expectations. Doesn't add anything new.

Vredens Tid - Manegarm
Perfects the band's style. Some songs may be too long or complex for fans of earlier material.

Warkult - Malevolent Creation
Savage. Repetitive.

Woodland Prattlers - Mechanical Poet

The Atrocity Exhibition - Exodus
Excellent thrash metal None unless you don't like thrash metal

Actions - My Awesome Compilation
Chirpy British alternative rock Perhaps limited mass appeal

Permutation - Amon Tobin
Very different, highly inventive Conventional music becomes less exciting after this! Some tracks are atmospheric "noise".

Bricolage - Amon Tobin
Experimental and occasionally creative sampling Some tracks become repetitive. Others simply don't work.

Supermodified - Amon Tobin
A cut above other samplists. Diverse. Weaker 2nd half of the album. Lacks continuity.

Tervaskanto - Korpiklaani
One of the best folk metal albums ever Makes the band's other work look like a bit of a let down
