Advantages: Some fantastic songs

Disadvantages: They are not all great

OK. Lets get this straight. The Man Who has three fantastic tracks. One or two very good tracks and the rest are 'above average'. Yes it is a good album but its a pity that not all are as good as they could be. Why Does it Always Rain On Me has won numerous awards like Best Contempory Song. And Driftwood and Writing to Reach You are also great. Turn is good, but the others are a bit flat and slightly samey. I have to say though, the songs are CLEVER. Not many bands write clever songs. Fran Healy has won the Best Song Writer award. The lyrics are intelligent and the melodies more original. The songs are actually all rather malancholic. None of them are happy really. Fran's voice is strong. The drumming is interesting, not monontous or bland. On some of the songs the guituar is briliant! Listen to it on Writing to Reach You and Driftwood.
A NOTE: There are actually 11 songs, though 10 tracks. On track 10, after about two minutes of nothing another song will start! There is no mention of it. It is actually a good song! And has a very different sound. It is not like the rest of the album. Its more bitter. Good all the same.
So, this is a good album but not great. I do recomend you buying it if you like mellow indie stuff.

I really like this album, but funnily enough I prefer their third. I think this album is well crafted with perfect and pure pop, ballads and an over whelming joy - is it just me? If you like Travis you should check Glasgows finest - Teenage Fanclub are where its at! cheers for the op : )
