 ... on.The Mary Onettes sound borrows largely from decent 80s bands and some of the 90s brit pop bands at their best but despite their similarities still sound surprisingly refreshing. The most notable of the similarities is a Peter Hook like(Joy Division, New Order, Monaco) bass line. Likewise on "Void", the vocals are very Ian Curtisy. The self-titled debut album by The Mary Onettes is one of the best pieces of indie music, I've come across lately. Released in 2007, I was shocked to discover this band were Swedish as this is the way UK indie music should sound rather than the pointless pop groups of today. I have to say the first track on the album sounded a little bit Coldplayish and I thought "oh no, it's another dull band" but the second track picked up and the album was great from then on.The Mary Onettes sound borrows largely from decent 80s bands and some of the 90s brit pop bands at their best but despite their similarities still sound surprisingly refreshing.
