I still consider Jackie Brown to be the best film Quentin Tarantino has ever made (sorry fans of Pulp Fiction or Resevior Dogs but it's just my humble opinion) so it makes sense that it would also sport one of the best soundtracks ever produced for one of his films. It is a lot more subtle and downright funkier than soundtracks from his previous collection, starting off with the wonderful "Across 110th Street", which is the opening theme to the film and always brings the image of Jackie Brown walking through the airport to the forefront of my mind when I close my eyes listening to it. It's a perfectly done compilation. It features the masterpieces performed by Artists whom you'll never hear again on one disc. 1) The video for the song Elevation made me buy the CD. I just liked the sound and energy of U2. 2) NIN are as usual. A good song 3) The Chemical Brothers are funny and jazzy. 4) The experiment involving Missy Elliot and Nelly Furtado was a total success! I've never heard a song like this before. Vigorous and fresh. 5) Outkast's Speedballing is one of the strongest compositions. The soundtrack in my opinion was the only plus point of a very average movie - following in the well trod path of Matrix, Blade et al, of using frenetic dance tracks to boost the films action sequences. To this point the makers of the film managed to get some of the best known and well respected ambassadors of mainstream dance to lend their beats to the soundtrack. This in itself sets up certain expectations and fortunately for the most part these are not disappointed.
