... 15 tracks were a little too much to take in. So I started listening to the first 8 tracks repeatedly until their subtle nuances sat more comfortably. After that the albums grand panoramic vision made for a hugely enjoyable if bumpy eclectic listen. It seems remarkable that 'The Moon & Antarctica' is less than an hour long because so much ground is covered in such a relatively short time. I happened upon this band somewhat by accident. I had heard them mentioned in the same breath as Neutral Milk Hotel and Olivia Tremor Control as bands to watch out for but never heard any of their stuff. Then one Saturday while flicking through some cd's on a stall in Temple Bar I spotted an advance promo of 'The Moon & Antarctica' going for a quid. Modest Mouse are very hard to classify because 'The Moon & Antarctica' points in so many disparate directions. The album contains more genres than the average band adopt in a decade.
