Kiss House Nation
I justwant to 'Kiss' This Album (176 words)by - written on 07/05/01
Rating:
With Ibizan party monsters Alex P and Brandon Block at the helm, Kiss House Nation 2001 would be hard pushed to fail in the floorfiller stakes. With 38 tracks spread over two CDs, there is plenty on offer for all--from full-on party house anthems such as Modjo's "Lady (Hear Me Tonight)", Bob Sinclar's "I Feel For You" and Timo Maas' storming and squelchy remix of Azzido Da Bass' "Doom's Night", to garage scene stalwarts Craig David ("Fill Me In"), Artful Dodger (accompanied by Romina Johnson on "Movin' Too Fast") and Wookie ("Get Enuff"), along with a couple of unusual but extremely good reworkings of pop ...

Well. House Nation 2001 is one of those things. They look great in the shops, when you're out buying for something, then you get it home and can't help but feel slightly deflated by it. The tracklisting reads like a whos who of dance music from the last year- Fatboy slim, Moloko, Modjo, Black Legend, Craig David, Darude, Artful dodger- but also contains some tracks that should never have been invented. The problem is primarily that while some of the fantastic tracks like Architechs' "body groove" get you really going, other tracks just float by with absolutely zero effect at all. It's these tracks, like Africanism "Tourment ...

Rating:
Another bargain double CD from Moving Shadow, following on from the '99.1' and '99.2' compilations of last year. The album is in celebration of Moving Shadow's tenth anniversary and is an overview of the labels past successes and forthcoming classics that are only available thus far on limited vinyl pressings. CD one is mixed down by Rob Playford. CD two is a CD Rom full of info about the label, a comprehensive (and searchable) database of the label's entire back catalogue, artist interviews, label artwork and much more. Whilst this CD has almost all of the records that have brougt the Drum and Bass to where it is today. With the like of Blame, 2 Bad Mice, ...

The occasional lazy rhyme and useless, unfunny skit.
