Rating:
I only wonder why so much of the crap nu-metal scene becomes famous when good bands such as Godsmack just get totaly ignored. This band released a great cd named very unoriginally "GODSMACK", however, it must be said that the album is very impressive. Their music is very original but incorporates the styles of bands before them. There are parts which are extremely similar to Korn. Other parts will make you thing you're listening to Metallica and other Limp Bizkit, but this is far from being anything close to Rap. Their album consists of 12 songs, one of which is just a short instrumental, which is nice to listen to and I htink is inspired to London ...

Godsmack seem to have a strange relationship with the media - most of the time they are sidelined completely, occasionally a journalist picks up on them and states categorically that they are the best thing since sliced bread! Personally I'd disagree with either view. Firstly - I like this album. There are some well written songs, a few new ideas (listen out for certain 'alternative' numbers such as "Someone in London" or "Voodoo", and the band plays well - they aren't often over here, but are incidentally well worth seeing live. However, it would be stretching it to call anything you'll find here inspired. They present a good ...

Awake - Godsmack
Godsmack (364 words)by - written on 03/08/01
Rating:
As popular as they are, the Boston-based heavy rock act Godsmack got a lot of flak with their debut album for basically ripping off Alice In Chains, even to the point of using one of the latter band's song titles as their name (no one believed the ludicrous cover story they came up with for that one). While that would be difficult to dispute – and, hey, Alice In Chains is missing in action anyway, so what the hell – it's nice to see that, on their second album Awake the band has gotten away from the Alice thing and has started developing a sound of their own. The first thing you notice about Awake is how fat it sounds: the production here is huge, ...
