The Weight Is A Gift - Nada Surf
by blackmaff - written on 03/04/08 (Very useful, 56 readings)
Rating:
their breakthrough single Popular . With the release of their fourth album The Weight is a Gift produced by Chris Walla (of Death Cab for Cutie) , Nada Surf push their music even further into the power pop genre and even add some soaring choruses for good measure. The album starts with Concrete Bed , a nice middle of the road melodic track that doesn t stand out particularly on its own but does introduce the theme of finding love, with an exceptional lyric To find someone you love, You ve got to be someone you love particularly effective and memorable. The track does pick up in tempo towards the 2 minute mark, and is a perfectly acceptable opening to the album. ...

Let Go - Nada Surf

I first saw Nada Surf back in 1996 when their first album had just been released, and waited for years for them to make the inevitable breakthrough which I felt they deserved. They had various contractual issues which did not help, and I was beginning to fear the worst for them when they released this album which, whilst not catapulting them into the mainstream, certainly did a lot to help their popularity. The album starts in reflective mood with Blizzard of 77 , before launching into The Way you wear your Head , a much more upbeat, catchy numnber which is my favourite on the album. For me things go seriously downhill with Blonde on Blonde and Inside of Love , ...

Lucky - Nada Surf

Rating:
Nada Surf are best known for their mid 90 s slacker rock classic, Popular. But they don t sound anything like that. That was a one off. They re really an exceptionally talented melodic rock band, imagine a Semisonic with a rock edge if you will. This is their brand new album, and if I may say myself, it s a bit of a cracker! I d go so far as to say this is their most fully fleshed out and coherent album so far, since picking this up I ve barely removed it from my iPod/PC/Car. For fans of the last album(The Weight is a Gift), this album is very similar both lyrically and musically, with the band s sound maturing, Matthew Caws lyrics are the cherry on an exceptionally ...
