King Diamond accomplished the unlikely with their 2003 album, creating a work that lives up to their classic period and even exceeds most of it. 'The Puppet Master' feels like the long-awaited perfection of the modern King Diamond style worked on since 'House of God,' and combines enough mean riffs, melodic moments and genuine horror to make it a perfect King Diamond album. Melodic take on the band's sound is successful. 
Lacks the energy and fun of previous releases. Twisted horror musical. Not as musically gripping or compelling as the band's earlier works. Most of the classics covered, and well-arranged. Ignores half of the discography, but it was the lesser half. An excellent rock album, fantastic from start to finish.
