Advantages: The band have spruced themselves up a bit

Disadvantages: None

Kocani Orkestar's latest album, released at the back end of last year has loads of energy. Kocani Orkestar have in my opinion evolved over the years, I once thought them to be a little boring and were well down the list of my favoured Macedonian bands with big names like Esma Redzepova and Ferus Mustafov topping the list. I've warmed to Kocani Orkestar over the years though and the band which I originally thought to be a bit rigid and brass heavy have change the tempo so often and created some awesome pieces of music on their latest album.

The Ravished Bride is a bit of a concept album about love with some epic movie like tracks but it has also seen the band branch out with a notoriously Arabic and even slightly Cuban sound to it. We get to witness the band with two guest guitarists which give certain tracks a surf rock sound and others a more contemporary Macedonian rock sound - mellow though not in Mizar vein!

The youthfulness of this album shines through particularly with the vocals of young Ajnur Azizov and the variety splashed through it makes for an interesting listen. It's by no means awkward though with a polished, suave and complete sound.

Romani Caj is my personal fave but the band's rendition of the Mexican classic La Llorona is pretty awesome too.

1. Sokeres
2. Romani Caj
3. Atlantis
4. La Llorona
5. Papigo
6. Mangelma Stoposto
7. Gelum Ko Bijav
8. Kalino Mome
9. Hajde Te Kelas
10. Sahara Dreams

13. But Katili

Summary: Awesome wild brass band
