Advantages: Great album with loads of great songs
Disadvantages: None
The Reason is the second offering from the Californian rockers Hoobastank following on from their debut Hoobastank.
This album when released struck me as a lot more rocky than their first, front man Doug Robb has shown with this album that he has what it takes to be flexible with his voice from screaming chorus's to melodic tunes too.
The songs on this album vary quite a lot from those which are fast and energetic to slow and soft and even a bit harder too.
So the first song is Same direction, this is a fast energetic song with a really catchy chorus and one of the best songs on the album. Don't think they get worse though- they don't!
Out of control : This has to be the heaviest song on this album and too date, it has hard chorus's mixed together with some soft verse lines. These are mixed very well and together create quite a stunning song. This is another of my favourites off the album.
What happened to us: Whilst this song is good it does not quite live up to the first too but, it is a more gentle song and the song can get repetitive. The song does have some great bass at the start to get you into the song but seems a bit lame for the album.
Although in saying this the chorus gets a little heavier which is an added bonus. It shows how Doug can use his range in voice from soft to hard.
Escape : This song is quite catchy but it is a more subdued song compared to the real rockiness of the first songs. Although some songs that are calmer are required on albums occasionally, I think this song could quite easily be left out. You would not miss it if it wasn't there one day.
Just one: Great drumming and guitar bring you into this song which are followed by great vocals. The song is very very good but just does not have the same oomph as the songs you've already heard.
Lucky: It seems to be a gentle and soft love song which is a nice addition to the album. You will probably listen to it once or twice then skip it after that. Its enjoyable but for me its too calm. But other may like it
From the heart: I have to say I do not like this song in any way. It's the worst song on the album and I never listen to it. Its very calm and I prefer Hoobastank with their fast paced rock songs, which seem to fit them better.
The Reason: Most people know the song its very slow and very calm but this is the one song off the album which is allowed to be like this. Because it works so well, with great emotion in the words.Doug manages to make it sound so harmonic and the guitar/drums fit perfectly too.
Listen to this song!!!! It is ace.
Let it out: The songs has a super intro which brings you into a heavy song which could well be the best song on the album.
No real comments on this one, just listen to it!!
And if you don't like it listen to it over and over until you do!
Unaffected: Slow and meaningful, its not bad.
Never there: Its another heavy track on the album and is very good to say the least. It has good guitar and drumming.
Dissapear: To be fair I don't listen to this song at all. It does not do anything for me so I avoid it and always will. But feel free to make your own minds up about this one. Its just not my cup of tea.
So there you have it a quick review of each song. I know some of them are a bit lame but when your writing a review of 12 songs it starts to get hard as of what to write.
If you know who Hoobastank are then you probably own one of their albums. If not then I strongly advise you to buy The Reason. This is actually their best album to date, the later ones also being good don't seem to have as many good songs on them.
Buy this album if you like rock/alternative music! 9/10 for the odd few let down songs, you will find something you like on this album! It's a very surprisingly quality album that must be in your collection.
Summary: Greta album which builds on the success of their first!!
