The Rise & Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars is one of my favourite albums of all time. I bought it on a vinyl at a car boot sal around a year ago and it is my most played record by far. The music has much more to it than modern pop music and is best compared to modern alternative music. The highlights of the album are five years, moonage daydream and rock 'n' roll suicide. The only track that isn't quite up to scratch would be "it ain't easy". Interestingly, this is the only song on the album that wasn't written by Bowie. The album is a concept album about ziggy stardust, a martian who comes to earth to deliver a ... Read the complete review

Ziggy Stardust came down to save the World using naught but the power of his haughty voice and glam rock guitar styling. In his quest to save us all, he was aided by the Spiders From Mars, a backing group of fellow aliens who more than equal his ability to rock. Yes, we're in David Bowie territory here, exploring an album that consistently ranks highly in those lists you read of the top albums of all time. "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars" is as intriguing an album as the title suggests, with Bowie dressing up in outrageously odd and elaborate costumes and dying his hair bright red/orange, taking on the title role in this bizarre ... Perhaps David Bowie's best known work, this is a great concept album with plenty of his most famous songs on. Here's a run-down of my favourite tracks: Five Years = a serene and sensitive song about longing that has a dreamy piano tune, and has Bowie's typically soothing but also often acerbic vocals. Soul Love = begins with a jazz-esque sound that's quite subdued, but transforms into something more heavy and pop-esque. A song about that love that doesn't get too bogged down either. Starman = one of Bowie's best known songs, it has a very catchy and memorable chorus that brilliantly exemplifies Bowie's talents as a singer. It's also ... Read the complete review

When I get round to compiling it, this will be in my top ten of favourite albums! David Bowie is so enigmatic, he isn't really an engima, right? OK scrub that. Maybe he has just been so obviously trying to be different he stood out, like the weird kid with no friends in the playground who then then turns up at the school reunion in a Bentley. This album is classic - yes, an obvious statement for those in the know, but there may be just a few youn things out there who haven't heard of Bowie, but need a mentor. Musically this album isn't up there with the geniuses, even though Bowie is a genius; it is just brilliant though! The ... Read the complete review

The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars was a concept album released by David Bowie (b. 1947) in June 1972. Peaking at number 5 in the UK album chart, it told the story of Ziggy Stardust, an alien who has 5 years left to live. It is frequently found on 'greatest albums' lists, and is certified gold in both the UK and the US. It features an array of instruments, including acoustic guitar, saxophone, harpsichord and string arrangement. ***Introduction*** Ok. I'm going to start my personal review with a declaration, which I think is pretty important. This album was released 19 years before I was born. Yes. 19 years. Almost two ... Read the complete review

Pieces - Dismember
Old-school Swedish death metal from the masters.
Only five songs plus a worthless intro.
Projector - Dark Tranquillity
Bold and successful change of direction (if temporary).
Very little to appeal to long-time fans.
Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia - Dimmu Borgir
Nice orchestra...
...shame about the band (well, except the drummer).
Rapture - Dragonlord
Fair forgery of the symphonic black metal style.
No original ideas, and dull execution.
Riders Of The Apocalypse - Demonoid
More great Swedish death metal.
No ideas of its own.
Scream Bloody Gore - Death
Strong debut, with great guitars.
Comparatively weak drums, and tendency towards repetition.
Sign Of Truth - Dionysus
More fun power metal, with great production from Tobias Sammet.
Nothing new here.
Sound Of Perseverance - Death
Hugely enjoyable and talented jazz-prog-death metal.
Structurally screwed.
Sounds From A Bygone Age Vol.2 - Romica Puceanu
Some great recordings of rare tracks
Misses some of Romica's best works

The best elements of death metal.
All taken from other bands.
