Cute is What We Aim For are a mostly unheard of fast paced emo band from Buffalo, New York, in the USA.

Their debut aldum, The Same Old Blood Rush With A New Touch, is a fantastic blend of catchy pop rock tunes and melodic emo songs.
Their lyrics influenced purely by emo culture it is safe to say, with every song being about either desire, women who can't be trusted, women who are used, and personal failure. But don't let that get you down, as their lyrics are largely comical, and they give emo culture a cheerful makeover. Their fast paced rythm also serves to contradict the 'emo' label they are given.

This is one of those albums where every song is likeable to a certain degree, though there are several which deserve special menntion.

2. There's a class for this.
The lead singer Shaant Hacikyan uses his voice here to give this a lovely touch, as he is able to alternate his pitch throughout the words, giving the lyrics a frequently stretched out, almost screamo touch at points. The chorus jumps up to a fast pace throughout the song, with the fantastic lyrics "I may be ugly, but they sure like to stare" joking about his fans perception of him no doubt, whilst taking a dig at his own slightly unconventional appearance.

6. The Fourth Drink Instinct.
This is a beautiful tune, as it sways between gentle emo verses, and a faster, yet gentle paced chorus with a good steady beat to it. This song stuck out to me, as Shaant here sings of a girl who can't stop drinking at the bar until she is taken away by a man who is clearly going to use her. Though the lyrics are intelligent, mentioning the way in which other people like to pretend that they care about her wellbeing whilst they watch her, and the girl's naievity. This is an emotionally powerful song, which manages to actually take a dig at the ugly side of drinking culture whilst being a catchy song.

8. The curse of curves.
A song about a shallow, hot girl basically. The lyrics here are funny, and the tune is incredibly catchy, with a fast paced chorus and a lovely back drum beat. Impossible not to laugh at the lyrics "I want someone provocative and talkative but it's so hard when you're shallow as a shower".

10. Lyrical Lies.
This is a pretty emo one, as he sings about his failure to get a woman he once fell for. The song has a fantastic melody and a good slow pace, with strumming accoustic guitar and Shaant singing at his best. This is a song that stays with you, and has some of the best lyrics around.
ie.

"And you want to be dressed in poetry
But imagery doesn't fit
And you want resizing
But darling dear get a grip

You're moving but not aware
You're drowsy without a care
Except keeping your whites behind your lids
And your lids are your best canvas
I can only imagine what you're painting, what you're painting
And your body on my mattress is proof
And your makeup on my pillow is proof"

Now, my fellow readers, don't call me emo, i never wrote that remember :p

Conclusion-
This is catchy emo at its best, and the ltrics are fantastic, being both funny and very intelligent throughout. I would recommend this to any fan of pop rock, and especially emo.

Summary: A great wee emo album

Great review. Bar the music, there is no 'emo culture' that I'm aware of - the kids are just a little less angry than when I first got into punk music, of which it emo might be argued is a castrated melodic version of.
