Premium Review The Scream - Siouxsie and the Banshees: "Pure"genius (388 words)

Wow. Really, that's all I have to say, but seen as you're probably looking for a little more, I will humour you. As a mere teenager (you know, those brainless yobs whose main hobbies include vandalising, doing drugs and wallowing in our ignorance) Siouxsie and the Banshees are a relatively recent find to me. I believe it's been over thirty years since Scream (their debut album) was released and yet it feels fresh and timeless. Admittedly, this album is not everyone's cup of tea, if you'll pardon the cliche. It's a bit far out and can take a few listenings to really appreciate it. But if you do, I can almost guarantee you'll love it. This album is so ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review That Jigsaw Feeling (1304 words)

Track list: 1. Pure 2. Jigsaw Feeling * 3. Overground 4. Carcass 5. Helter Skelter * 6. Mirage 7. Metal Postcard * 8. Nicotine Stain * 9. Suburban Relapse 10. Switch * Personal Favourites. This is a review of the original non-remastered C.D, released in 1989 by Polydor Records. Siouxsie and the Banshees formed in 1976 as a kind of 'experiment'. Huge fans of the Sex Pistols and the new found freedom which the punk scene afforded 'non musicians', Siouxsie Sioux and friend Steve Severin played the 100 Club Punk festival when the other scheduled band dropped out. It didn't matter who ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review The Scream - Siouxsie and the Banshees: I still enjoy listening to Siouxsie scream (1113 words)
by - written on 17/02/08 (Very useful, 120 readings)
Rating:

The Scream was the first studio album released by Siouxsie & the Banshees. Originally released on Polydor records in 1978 this is an album that I remember buying on vinyl back in the early eighties. 27 years after its original release, in 2005 this album was reissued in a single CD and a 2 CD digitally re-mastered edition. This was the first time that many of these tracks, now over 30 years old, have appeared in CD format. The single CD version contains all of the original tracks on the vinyl version whilst the 2 CD version also contains demo and live tracks as well as the singles and their b-sides released from that same period. Songs are live and there are some comic changes that have been made. Audio quality has suffered slightly and jokes may be controversial.

A couple of the songs don't stink... um... Robert Smith was trying to be clever in his sparse instrumental arrangements and it back-fired!

Modern heavy metal in the classic style, without sounding dated. Nothing new here.

The Cure's strongest set of songs when released, great arrangements for the most part Primary and Doubt, while not bad songs, stick out artistically

Great songs, Great band A bit full of themselves

Jones's voice, one great and some good tracks Does get repetative
