The Singles Collection is the second greatest hits collection from Britney Spears. Her first, My Prerogative, was released in 2004 and five years later, The Singles Collection arrived to mark ten years in the business - a pretty impressive amount of time for any pop artist to last.
Many of Britney's hits from the beginning of her career are present and correct. No singles collection from her would be complete without Baby One More Time, (You Drive Me) Crazy and Oops! I Did It Again. One of my favourite tracks from her earlier period, Stronger, is also included.
Thankfully, there are far fewer ballads in this collection than there were on My Prerogative. Only her early hit Born to Make You Happy, sincere and reflective I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman, and the stripped-down Everytime are here - the best of the bunch.
The best of Britney's mid-decade hits are here too, including Toxic, Boys and I'm a Slave 4 U. These are great tracks that hold a lot of good memories for me, as they were played in all the clubs when I was a student.
The album is heavily weighted towards Britney's later material - after her mid-decade breakdown she came back with a bang with such hits as Gimme More, Piece of Me and the unbelievably catchy Womanizer. 3, which opens the album, is also rather impressive, while Circus, the title track from Britney's latest album, stands out. This material really gets into your head, and is grown up enough to be mature dance-pop you don't need to be ashamed of listening to. If U Seek Amy is a fun, naughty play on words that doesn't really make sense until you listen to it, while closing track Radar is the only one I'm not really keen on - it doesn't have the same spark. Still, 17 out of 18 isn't bad.
If anything, The Singles Collection is even better than My Prerogative, with fewer ballads and more fab dance-pop hits. Highly recommended from me, it comes with five stars.

This is Britney's second greatest hits compilation. I have the songs on her other albums but I bought it purely to complete my Britney collection. I bought it online for £4.97.
The album contains some of Britney's best known hits. I say "some" as she has left out a number of her weaker tracks (i.e Lucky) so if you're looking for the complete Britney greatest hits compilation I would recommend buying her first greatest hits and then buying the missing singles. I bought this purely because it was cheap. I waited for the price to drop as I felt a little cheated that some of her songs were missing. How can she call it "The Singles Collection" when most singles are missing? I think she could have made a greatest hits collection that spun across two CDs. That would have been the better option. Madonna did!
However, the album is fun and an easy listen as you know most of the songs anyway. The only song that I wasn't that familiar with was "3", which was her latest single release at the time. The album tracklisting is in a good order and it's a great party album. There's a few upbeat songs on this and a few ballads. Like I said, the upbeat tracks are great party tracks and the ballads are emotional without being too cheesy.
I would recommend this album as it is available to buy for a reduced price now. I would maybe reconsider buying it at full price. Not a bad album to have on your iPod. A blast of Britney cheers me up on rainy days!
I listen to this cd as I was cutting grass today. I was wondering why everyone is bashing it. Get a grip people !!! It's just a collaboration of her best selling singles, nothing more or less. Stuff that has already been published and recorded. This cd is excellent for working out or just working. Starting with "3" the beat is uplifting and great starting song. I find myself more into the old Britney because she had more creativity with her vocal chords. Baby One More Time and Oops! ..I Did It Again are highly motivated and sexual while keeping a rhythm in your head. If I could only believe you in singing Stronger because I surely love you singing this song, the music and the lyrics do fit you so well. Makes you even sound like you have morals, (not). I'm a Slave 4 U fits right in her persona of being the real bisexual submissive she really is. Really is not put well together and the background sounds like it was put together from two six graders. Me Against The Music featuring Madonna is a good dance piece, nice steady backgrounds and chorus with Madonna and her sexual self making me bump and grind my zero turn mower.
Depending how big of a fan you are of Britneys is how your going to balance this albums rating. I mean I loved her on Star Search when she was 8 years old. Gimme More and Piece of Me, now how can you not think of pure raw sexual thoughts racing in your head. The background vocals and chorus(Piece of Me) having you biting your lower lip that they need to be rated "Hot". Womanizer and Circus both videos of these songs are very sexy. But Circus has great originality to it and great dance piece and the tempo changes from chorus to lyrics and you just want to grab a set of hips and just grind on the dance floor. If You Seek Amy is another song that bounces through your head about sexuality. Put together rather well between music and background vocals really spice this song up.

My overall assessment about this album is that it's mainly for the teen crowd to 30ish group or unless your like me that use the music to keep me going at work or working out. Each song was different nothing to clingy but letting you know what was on her mind. The music and compilations were so different on each song that if dancing to it you would not be confined to the same dance for 17 songs. Like Womanizer and Circus for examples great songs and both going in different directions. The first showing how she wants to be dominant to men who think that their the "bee's knees", how she won't let a man run all over her. The latter song saying "bring it, and it better be hot and heavy" I have all night so show me what you what you can do. Those lyrics alone are written just for her. It's just a shame she can't keep her head on her shoulders properly because I don't believe we have seen the best of what this woman has channeled up inside. 4.5 stars

Great Music to Play While: Exercising
Also appears on Epinions by me.
I used to be quite a fan of Britney Spears when I was younger. Back in the day she was one of the World's top artists , although , now I can't help but feel she has fallen behind in the game a little bit , and so I have gone slightly off her a little bit now that the likes of Leona Lewis , Delta Goodrem and Rihanna have come along. I still like a lot of her songs , just not as much of a fan of her as I used to be , especially when I saw that she mimed in all her songs and barely rehearsed for her shows , especially when people are paying good money. Despite this , i still wanted to get my hands on a copy of her latest CD , Britney Spears ; The Singles.
The CD was released back in 2009 and is the second Britney Spears' greatest hits album. The CD celebrates Britney's decade in the charts , and includes most of her top hits. The CD is available to buy from Play.com for a price of £5.99 (including free delivery).

This is a great CD especially if you've loved her music. It's a real fan must have. I found it very interesting to see how Britney's music (as well as image and style etc) has changed in those ten years. It also shows how music (not only Britney's) has progressed since the late 90's. Even though there is a real difference between Baby One More Time (Britney's debut single) and '3' (Britney's most recent single , I can't help but love them all. However , I was slightly disappointed with the fact there could have been a lot more songs on here than there already is. I think it would have been nice for the fans to add not-so-well-known-songs such as 'Someday You Will Understand', 'Break The Ice', ' Sometimes' , 'Do Something' , 'Overprotected' and 'Lucky'. I can't understand why they havn't included the above songs. If the CD is about celebrating Britney's ten years of music then it should include the missing songs , whether or not they did well in the charts , they were still part of her decade in music.
My only criticism regarding this CD is that even though I said it would be ideal for Britney fans who want to add every Britney item to keep their collection up to date , I can't help but feel it is ripping the fans off. If you're a massive fan , then you are likely to already own the singles and all of the albums , and so this album doesn't bring nothing new really , just a new CD , with the songs you already had in a different order with a different package. I already own the Britney Greatest Hits CD and so there is only a couple of new tracks on here , which is a disapointment. What was the point of releasing the previous greatest hits CD a couple of years ago , if they were going to 'celebrate Britney's ten years in the charts' a couple of years later , but with only a couple more tracks.
If you like Britney's songs , but havn't got any of her albums , then I would recommend this!
Despite liking the album myself , if you have all of her albums including her previous greatest hits album , then I would consider this to be a waste of money!

The way I see it, Britney Spears is a living legend of the pop world; this collection backs it up. There's everything on here from "...Baby One More Time" to "Three." Unsuprisingly, the quality of the material is consistent throughout.
While her voice may not be the strongest, her material definitely is. You can count upwards of ten tracks on this CD that any listener--fan or not-- would be able to recognise and sing along to.
This CD documents Spears journey: through her debut album; "Oops I Did It Again"-fronted sophomore effort; more sexually-inclined eponymous follow-up; "Toxic" and "Everytime" including "In The Zone"; avant garde "Blackout" effort; and latest full release "Circus." With this collection you can follow Spears' complete career and her artistic journey.
One slight disappointment is the album artwork. It feels rushed and slightly half-hearted. The front cover epitomises this, eight pictures of Spears from throughout her recording career simply placed next to each other. It's shoddy, quite frankly. And her fans deserve better--after all, wasn't her last greatest hits released just a mere four years ago?
And that's another complaint of the release, the tracklist isn't in chronological order. 'Greatest Hits' releases always sound better when you can listen from the first single to the latest--they just do, that's how they work. The mashed-up tracklist for this fails to show her journey chronologically which is a shame for the listener--unless you know the dates of each individual release.
Released in November 2009, just in time for Christmas 'The Singles Collection' features 18 of Britney Spears biggest and best songs. It is a strong follow up to her earlier 2004 Greatest Hits release and although some of the songs are duplicated on this release it is still a great addition to any fans collection.
Every song is familiar and catchy and even non-fans will have heard the majority of them, starting with her last single '3' which is quite a raunchy ditty about threesomes and features a heavy bassline combined with a electropop sound this is a classic Britney song; its lyrics are mature and probably as far removed as they possibly can be from second song on the album, Britney's first single release 'Baby one more Time'
4/5 from me for "3"
'Baby one more Time' introduced the world to Britney and was the song that got me interested in her, I still love this song even today and even though lyrically Britney is much stronger now this hook and arrangement of this song to me rates as one of the most perfect pop singles ever released. 5/5 from me.
(You drive me) Crazy is the third song on the album and again is upbeat, catchy and definitely all out pop music with a stomping chorus, sounding a little dated to me now but still a great addition to Britney's back catalogue and deserves its place on this CD. 3/5
The fourth song; "Born to make you happy" isn't a favourite of mine as I find it a bit syrupy sweet and far too sappy really, it seems quite an immature song lyrically and this is one that I skip over preferring the faster, dancier songs from Britney. 2/5
Getting back to Britney at her earlier beast comes "Oops I did it again", a song with a ridiculously catchy hook that firmly implants itself in your head, another favourite of mine from her earlier work and another 5/5 song choice for me.
Another favourite follows that I admit to playing full blast at times "Stronger" featuring strong, clear vocals, a thumping backing track and memorable lyrics another 5/5 song for me.
Raunchiness follows with "I'm a Slave for you", which though hot and steamy isn't as infectious as other songs for me, very clubby with beats galore it's more of a dance track than a sing-along pop song, good but not a favourite 3/5 from me.
Slowing down for the next track and coming from the 'Crossroads' soundtrack; "I'm Not a Girl. Not yet a Woman" isn't a song I can relate to (being a bloke lol) it's still a nice enough song with a message that young women can recognise, It is pleasant enough and breaks the album up. 3/5 from me
A couple of songs come next that saw Britney take a new direction away from all out pop to a more clubby sound, "Boys" and "Me against the Music" (featuring Madonna) are both delivered with breathier, sultrier vocals with a less infectious hook, both songs are good, but not representative of Britney at her best for me so only get 3/5
"Toxic" sees Britney back with a more familiar, all out pop classic features memorable lyrics, a sweeping backing track that is instantly recognisable and came with a video that you can't fail to remember. Another favourite of mine and a 5/5 song.
Slowing back down next with "Everytime" which features mature lyrics, a beautiful melody and a strong delivery, a very nice change of pace for the album and a song that I really like. An all round gorgeous song that is another 5/5 winner with me.
"Gimme More" and "Piece of Me" from her fifth album 'Blackout' in 2007 saw Britney come back after her public breakdown, the songs are angrier than before and feature remarks towards the media and paparazzi, a change of direction musically again this time more urban sounding. Despite both having catchy choruses neither are favourites of mine and only rate 3/5 with me.
Post breakdown and 'Blackout' the last four songs on the CD are from Britney's 2008 album 'Circus' and are all a return to form for her. Catchy, upbeat all-out pop songs the first of which "Womanizer" has another insanely catchy chorus that skips along, a huge favourite of mine and another 5/5 stomper with me.
'Circus' slows down slightly with meaningful lyrics and another catchy hook and chorus, not as strong as "Womanizer" but still a strong single release nevertheless. A 4/5 song from me
My favourite song from the album 'Circus' follows; "If you Seek Amy" a cheeky play on words that of course outraged America, it's a song with a sense of humour which I like and is another electropop release that gets a 5/5 from me.
And so finally, closing the album is "Radar" which is a dance club track. Not the strongest choice for me as it's a song that grows on you rather than catching you from the first listen. A 3/5 rating but still good overall.
So that's the full 18 track listing all with my own personal thoughts on each of the tracks, to say Britney has been around for 10 years and has gone through some very public events in her life her music is a testament to her superstar status. Love her or hate her no one can say that they don't know her or have never heard one of her songs and while she is probably not as relevant or modern as singer-songwriters who gain more critical acclaim Britney can always be relied on to bring us some pop classics.
I wouldn't call myself an uber-fan by any means, apart from this, her 2004 Greatest hits album and 2008's Circus those are the only CD's I actually own of Britney's but I can't help but be drawn in to her songs and find them incredibly catchy and brilliantly produced.
A 'perfect pop package' is how I would describe Britney Spears and this collection, available from Amazon for £6.98 new and only £3.99 from Market Place should find a home on your IPod or in your cars CD player.
An overall rating of 5/5 from me and very highly recommended. Excellent.
