      Greatest hits from Feeder

Feeder, a guitar band who began in the 1990s, released their greatest hits album in 2006 after previously releasing 5 studio albums. My brother quite liked them, and after hearing him play their albums quite a bit, I went out and purchased this collection for myself.

I was surprised at how many songs I recognised from this album. Some of them were from clubs I'd been to, and I recognised others from when my brother used to play them, but some I recognised from adverts. The band's most favourite song is probably Buck Rogers. You know the one: "I've got a brand new car/Looks like a Jaguar/it's got leather seats/it's got a CD player". I'm not sure where the title comes from, but it's a very catchy and instantly recognisable song.

There are some other very catchy songs on here too, such as Come Back Around, Lost & Found and the B-side Just a Day. Towards the end of the album, there is Seven Days in the Sun, a happy song about going on holiday, and Pushing the Senses. Lots of these songs are brilliant played in an indie club, or when you're in a good mood in general.

On the album there are several sadder, more despondent tracks. Just the Way I'm Feeling, Forget About Tomorrow and Comfort in Sound have a more melancholy vibe, but are good to listen to when you're feeling down.

There are some songs on the album which I'm not so keen on. Save Us and Suffocate are slightly dull. However, considering there are 20 songs in this collection, I'm impressed that there are only a couple that I'm not so keen on.

Overall, this is a fantastic collection of songs for every mood ranging from incredibly happy to gloomy and sad. Highly recommended.

        Push your senses...

I will begin this review by saying I am not Feeder's greatest fan in the world, but that is not to say I don't like them. Feeder to me are one of those bands to put on the music system every so often and have a good old 'rock out.' I have actually seen them live, in my married days as my ex was a bigger fan.

The Singles chronicles Feeders singles from day one till 2006 and in my view is a great collection and a great introduction to the band. I guess a few of these songs will be known to most of you, including "Buck Rogers," featured on this collection.

'He's got a brand new car, it's like a jaguar
It's got leather seats, it's got a CD player...'

        The band:

        Grant Nicholas- vocals, guitar
Taka Hirose- bass guitar, backing vocals
        Mark Richardson - drums
And Jon Lee- drums, percussion ( he was the original drummer, who tragically committed suicide in 2002).

        The Tracks:

1."Come Back Around" - 3:12 - from Comfort in Sound
        2."Buck Rogers" - 3:12 - from Echo Park
3."Shatter" - 2:57 - originally a B-side of 'Tumble and Fall', and from the Japanese Pushing the Senses.
        4."Just the Way I'm Feeling" - 4:18 - from Comfort in Sound
        5."Lost & Found" - 2:56 - new song for the collection
6."Just a Day" (single edit) - 3:45 - original version appears on Picture Of Perfect Youth
        7."High" - 4:33 - from the Polythene reissue
8."Comfort in Sound" - 3:37 - original version on Comfort In Sound
        9."Feeling a Moment" - 4:09 - from Pushing The Senses
10."Burn the Bridges" - 3:37 - new song for the collection
        11."Tumble & Fall" - 4:20 - from Pushing The Senses
12."Forget About Tomorrow" - 3:51 - from Comfort In Sound
        13."Tender" - 4:16 - from Pushing The Senses
14."Pushing the Senses" (single mix) - 3:27 - original version on Pushing The Senses
15."Save Us" - 3:50 - new song for the collection
16."Seven Days in the Sun" - 3:39 - from Echo Park
        17."Insomnia" - 2:52 - from Yesterday Went Too Soon
        18."Turn" - 4:30 - from Echo Park
19."Yesterday Went Too Soon" - 4:17 - from Yesterday Went Too Soon
20."Suffocate" (single version) - 4:43 - original version on Polythene

So how would I describe Feeder? Wiki says they are an alternative rock band, but that doesn't say much does it? I would say they are a heavy band with quieter moments. They are far from Metal, but they do kick arse when they want to. "Just a Day" is a great example of the energy they produce and this is a real crowd pleaser. This was the song I first heard from them, from some Indi music collection my ex got for Christmas. "Shatter" is another terrific song and is one of my favourites. But they do have lighter moments too, such as "High" and "Tumble and Fall." Then you get a mixture of both in songs like Burn the Bridges.

"Pushing the Senses" is another great song, a real foot-tapper and is also another most of you should know, especially if you have watched a Vauxhall car adverts lately. But their earlier stuff is at its most raw and chunky, whereas the later stuff is crisp and probably more radio-friendly. Examples of earlier raw stuff are "Insomnia" and "Seven Days in the Sun."

        'Coming around my senses torn
Its no illusion it's here everyday I bleed
As long as you see it as long as you know
As long as you fake it nobody knows

        Break down again I'm suffering
My heads out of sync and I can't hide the pain...'

        (From 'Shatter.')

          Disadvantages

One of the most underrated bands proving just how good they are.

Whilst I wouldn't consider myself a fan, I picked this CD up a while back on the strength of one or two songs. Or so I thought!! Listed below is the the full track listing:-

          1."Come Back Around"
          2."Buck Rogers"
          3."Shatter"
          4."Just the Way I'm Feeling"
          5."Lost and Found"
          6."Just a Day"
          7."High"
          8."Comfort in Sound"
          9."Feeling a Moment"
          10."Burn the Bridges"
          11."Tumble and Fall"
          12."Forget About Tomorrow"
          13."Tender"
          14."Pushing the Senses"
          15."Save Us"
          16."Seven Days in the Sun"
          17."Insomnia"
          18."Turn"
          19."Yesterday Went Too Soon"
          20."Suffocate"

If like me you are just a casual fan, you've spotted glanced over them, you've probably recognised one or two singles. For me they were ''Buck Rogers'' and ''Just a Day''. Popped the CD in and realised my error. They might as well have called this cd ''Oh Yeah'' because for it's duration you'll sit there listening to the songs thinking to yourself ''oh yeah, I forget they did this'' or ''I never knew they sung that''. And they did!!

Stand out tracks, where do you begin? For me there two personal faves. Firstly the amazing ''High'' which for festival goers brings back some amazing memories. Played as an acoustic version since 2002, it had been most notable for its use as a tribute to drummer Jon Lee who had committed suicide in January 2002. Fans of Feeder flooded the Steve Lamacq show on Radio 1 requesting it be played as a tribute, which was carried out. At festivals during the summer, it was often played to setting suns. Bright fiery red skies with the acoustic guitar sailing over fields. Can't be beaten.

And then there is ''Buck Rogers''. You've all heard it and I'll go out on a limb and say that more than likely you've bounced off the walls of some club to this, being played full belt. It's about the coupling process apparently, with some of the most vivid imagery used. ''A brand new car, looks like a Jaguar.'' Memorably used in the Owen Wilson film 'Behind Enemy Lines', it still retains all the energy and verve of a good old 90s indie rock track, and goes down as one of those records that in thirty years time, you're going to bore you kids to death with.

So there the two faves, there are eighteen more which you may argue are better. Simply put it is a cd that does not disappoint through it's listing and if you haven't got it, then you really should. Amazon have the Ltd Ed on sale at £4.99, I suggest you make your way there now.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            Fantastic set of songs

Feeder are a great band, and probably the best "alternative rock" band out there: they aren't too heavy or meaningful, but they write layered and upbeat tunes about life and love, and entertain accordingly. This is a collection of their very best songs, and here I shall detail my favourites:

Come Back Around = clearly a song very much about the loss of their drummer, Jon Lee, this is aggressive, pensive, moody, and brilliant. Great drums and Grant Nicolas's typically soothing vocals make this one of their best.

Buck Rogers = everyone knows this song and with good reason; it's a great party song and will get the floor moving. It also has strange, funny lyrics that stick in the mind and repeat a lot.

Shatter = it shouldn't really be on here, as it was never a single by itself (but a B-side), yet it's one of their best songs and so I don't mind. It is one of their heavier songs and is also very frenetically paced.

Just A Day = probably their most beloved song and probably their best, it is an all at once melancholic, fun, playful and optimistic song that has superb guitar, drum AND vocal work, and is again one that most Feeder fans will jump around to and know the words to. It's very fun to see it live if you can (I did at the Sonisphere Festival) too.

Seven Days In The Sun = one of their earlier songs, this is a very playful and carefree song that represents the lack of foresight in youth, and details how kids just want to have fun. It also has a sweet and cute story.

Feeder are one of the best soft-rock bands around, and this proves that, with an extensive tracklist of superbly crafted, hard-hitting tunes.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

A must own for any Feeder fan

For any Feeder fans or people looking to try and get hold of a few of their songs then the singles is the perfect album for you to get. The track list is full of 20 of their best songs and you can listen all the way through and not feel any need to skip one track. In fact after listening to it you will likely want to start it all over again. After having this album for a couple of years I have yet to tire of a single song.

The 20 songs on the album are as follows:-

            1. Come Back Around
            2. Buck Rogers
            3. Shatter
            4. Just The Way I'm Feeling
            5. Lost & Found
            6. Just A Day
            7. High
            8. Comfort In Sound
            9. Feeling A Moment
            10. Burn The Bridges
            11. Tumble & Fall
            12. Forget About Tomorrow
            13. Tender
            14. Pushing The Senses
            15. Save Us
            16. Seven Days In The Sun
            17. Insomnia
            18. Turn
            19. Yesterday Went Too Soon
            20. Suffocate

Buck Rogers which I feel is their biggest single and best song is obviously the stand out track on the album. However with so many great singles from this band it doesn't stand out by much compared to the other songs. Just the way I'm feeling, Come back around, Feeling A Moment, Insomnia and Turn are also must listen to tracks for anyone even if you don't by this already worthwhile album.

This will be one of the best singles albums that you will be able to buy and a to a true music lover this is a vital addition to your collection.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            the band best songs

The singles from feeder is actually their second compilation and before I got it I was having trouble trying to remember more then a few of their singles. It features 18 of their top 40 singles that were released previously. Its only after listening to it that you remember how much good songs they have actually done over the years, I'm not a big feeder fan, never have been but I can still remember a lot of their songs and still like a lot of them too.

The album starts with the song come back around, it's a very fast and very good song however if I'm being completely honest Iv not actually heard this one before, but none the less it kicks the album off to a great start.

Buck Rogers is where the album really starts though. This is the one which starts with the great guitar and the lyrics "he's got a brand new car...." probably their most well known song of all time, one of their rockiest and one of the best to sing along to as well, just a great rock track.

Lost and found is actually a relatively new song from the boys, I think it only came out last year or the year before and is a very nice rock song, its got great lyrics and of course a very catchy chorus for every one to sing along to, its good to see the boys can still make and perform great music.

Burn the bridges is another one I really like, it starts off very slow and I think it's the slowest song the band do. The drums kick into the first verse and it gets going a bit but its not till the electric guitar comes in and then it really gets going and becomes a really great song, its still quite a sad song through, with the lyrics and the way he sings them but its one of my favourites.

            1. Come Back Around
            2. Buck Rogers
            3. Shatter
            4. Just The Way I'm Feeling
            5. Lost And Found
            6. Just A Day
            7. High
            8. Comfort In Sound
            9. Feeling A Moment
            10. Burn The Bridges
            11. Tumble And Fall
            12. Forget About Tomorrow
            13. Tender
            14. Pushing The Senses
            15. Save Us
            16. Seven Days In The Sun
            17. Insomnia
            18. Turn
            19. Yesterday Went Too Soon
            20. Suffocate

Feeder are a great band, after listening to this it made me realise that they have had some really good songs over the years and they can really write and perform them well too, I was never a massive fan of them when they were putting studio albums out but ill definitely buy the next one they do.

              It's amazing

I have liked Fedder for a long time now and enjoyed all their albums. But this ons is quite simoply their best. All their best songs rolled into one album. Althought there may be some songs missing, it has some absolute beauties in it. Such as, 'Come Back Around' and 'Seven Days In The Sun'. The songs are so upbeat ad lively. Whoever you are you will enjoy this album. I'ts definitely a "Feel good album". Really worth parting with your money for it. amazon.com ;) If you don't feel better after listening to it, then I'l give you a tenner. Even my gran liked it. All the songs have such a good beat and rhythm to them, not to mention the lyrics. Lyrically it is a work of art. Quite brilliant. I highly reccomend this album from Feeder, if you haven't already got it. One song you must listen to is 'Buck Rogers'.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

A quality album for any feeder or non-feeder fan.

Just to get this straight... I am a massive Feeder fan, and have followed them from the very start. I still love their tunes to date, therefore just proving how good Feeder's consistency is. This album is jampacked with all Feeder's best tracks, but there are some which I think may be missing, but the one's on here are still amazing.

                _Tracks_
                1. Come Back Around. This track has a superb beat, with great guitar backing. The lyrics are excellent also and the chorus has an even more amazing guitar bits in it. 9/10.

                2. Buck Rogers. I always remember this song from playing on Gran Turismo. I put it on repeat and left it on the whole time. The lyrics are strange, but in a good way. Again the guitar backing lives up to expectations. So, lets all drink cider from a lemon. 9/10

                3. Shatter. Right from the very start this track grips you, and doesn't let go right until the end. The chorus is great, and changes into it from the verses excellently. 8/10

                4. Just the way I'm feeling. Everything about this song is brilliant, including the name. I love the way it changes from slower and calming in the verses, to faster in the chorus. But the change is so cleverly done, that it's hard to notice. That is because you should be too busy admiring the song. 10/10

                5. Lost and Found. One of Feeder's most recent tracks, yet again they do not fail to fill expectations. The start of the song is superb and usually gets me clapping along. Personally I think this track is more of a 'grower on me' but I now love it almost as much as Feeder's older stuff. 8/10

                6. Just a Day. This is definitely one of Feeder's faster tracks, but if you can keep up with the lyrics, you will be impressed. Again as usual, Feeder manage to fulfill there amazing reputation so far on this album. Another cracker from the band. 9/10

                7. High. The opposite to the previous track, this is one of Feeder's slower tracks. What I love about Feeder is their ability to do slower and faster tracks to the same ability. This track is outstanding, I can listen to it over and over again without getting bored. 10/10

                8. Comfort in Sound. I only have one thing to say about this track. It definitely gives me comfort in listening to it's sound. Superb. 10/10

                9. Feeling a Moment. I love the start of this song. It's perfect. Jumps straight into the music and gets you going. The lyrics on this track are also great. That's another thing I love about Feeder. All their lyrics are great and make sense, plus you can understand what they are saying. 9/10

                10. Burn the Bridges. It just keeps going. The consistency is so good. It just doesn't stop. Im almost certain that every song I have heard by Feeder (pretty much all of them, including acoustic and promo version), is amazing. I just don't know how they do it. 9/10

                11. Tumble and Fall. I love this track. I know I keep saying the lyrics are great, but it's true, they have done it again, they are brilliant. The guitar backing here is again superb as always. The drum beat is simple but really effective and works really well. 10/10

                12. Forget About Tomorrow. It just keeps getting better. I don't know what I will do if Feeder ever fail to produce a bad track. I will be amazed, because I have never heard one. I love the instrument in the background on this one; not entirely sure what it is, but it adds a great touch to the track. 10/10

                13. Tender. One word. Wow. Ok two more words. Great work. 9/10

                14. Pushing the senses. Well this track definitely pushes my hearing the sense, and that's for the better. It's amazing. Superb. Intriguing. Excellent. Breath-taking. Immense. 10/10

                15. Save Us. This is another slower one from Feeder (apart from the chorus). I like it because it's calming, yet gets you going at the same time. I am going to put that one down to the drum beat in the background. 9/10

                16. Seven days in the Sun. I often think this track is very similar to Buck Rogers, but after listening to them a lot they are very unique in their own great way. My favourite line: 'he likes to cross dress every friday night with clothes from prada'. Songs don't usually make me laugh but I'm pretty sure when I first heard this one it did. 8/10

                17. Insomnia. This is probably the track I have least listened to on the whole album. Which is a shame really, because I just started recently listening to it again and realised how excellent it actually was. My hat is off once again to you Feeder. Great work. 9/10

                18. Turn. I would describe this track as 'abstract'. It's great. It's different, but different in a good way, if you can understand what I mean. 9/10

                19. Yesterday went to soon. I always know what song it is when it comes on. Straight away. I don't know why, but it's a good thing, because everyone wants to know what it is so they can buy it, and I can tell them. Everybody wins. Great tune. Super drum beat in the background; it gives it that edge. 10/10

                20. Suffocate. I don't think they have saved the best until last. That is probably the only criticism you will ever hear about Feeder from my lips. Its also pretty good. But however, I don't like it as much as the others. So therefore it will be the only one rated below an 8. Still good. 7 and a half / 10.

                _Overall_
This album is utterly amazing, and no music collection is complete without it. There is a great mix of tracks that will appeal to anyone and everyone. Everything down to the artwork is brilliant. Especially the pose on the front. Very vintage. It is a must buy. I urge you, buy it. I will buy it for you if you are a Feeder skeptic, and prove to you just how good they really are. An overall 10 out of 10. But it, or I will buy it for you, just to show how good Feeder really are.

                Disadvantages

Great quality of tracks and good art work/photos inside the cover

                _First Look_
'The Singles' is a great view of the past for one of Englands execptional rock bands. With such success, Feeder suffered their biggest loss in 2002 when drummer Jon Lee committed suicide . Surviving that alone could have ended it all, but the passion of Feeders songs allowed the group to keep it together. Singles is the heart of all of that and a warm look at where they're going. Singles features 20 quality tracks. Sure, it would have been great if it was ordered according to release date, but the track listing is a cohesive mix of groundbreaking and reflective tunes that everyone will enjoy. What was once a post punk Band is now a well respected rock band with a collection of quality songs. For fans old and new, Singles couldn't have said it any better.

                  -

Well I’ve liked Feeder for a while now but to be honest I only knew a couple of their songs. So when a couple of friends of mine went to see them in concert and said they were excellent I thought I should get better acquainted with them. The best way to do this is to listen to their best songs which are all fortunately listed on their album the Singles.

                  1) Come Back Around
The first track starts off the album with a nice beat, some vocals and then goes full into a guitar solo with the chorus. The song starts off simple with only a few beats and turns back into this a few times during the song. Between this beat comes a full on rock song with the catchy chorus, meaty guitar sounds giving a fun and funky song to start off a great album.

                  2) Buck Rogers
This has to one of my favourite songs on the album. Again it starts off with a cool, funky beat with the lyrics coming in. But then the guitar pounds in with the drums giving an utterly thrilling song which I always have to get up and dance to. The chorus is extremely catchy; my one criticism of this song is it seems too short for me.

                  3) Shatter
This song is fantastic and just sounds absolutely brilliant. It has some strong guitar sounds with a hard drum beat with some thought provoking lyrics. However great it sounds after the first hearing it does get a little repetitive after you have heard it a few times.

                  4) Just the way I’m feeling
This is a slow song which really gets you into a chilled out mood. The drum beat is very soft with the guitar hardly being played, just a soft melody. The chorus does get a little energetic with the guitar coming more into play but overall this is a song to listen to when you want to be in a calm mood.

                  5) Lost and Found
I’ve never really grown accustomed to this song. I always just thought that it doesn’t have any beat or melody to it, it just sounds like lots of noise that goes on for a few minutes. The vocalist is pretty much screaming and I think the drums play too much which make this one of my least favourite songs. One good point I can say is that half way through the song there is a cool guitar solo which sounds pretty cool.

                  6) Just a Day
I think this probably has to every Feeder’s fan’s favourite song and is probably the most well known song by them. And it should be, it immediately starts with one of the catchiest tunes you will ever hear with the guitar and drums coming into full effect. The lyrics are brilliant and funny when you listen to them and the song never becomes tiring. I must have listened to this song a million times but I still love it. The chorus is extremely upbeat with the tune at the start making reappearance. Again this is a song which you can’t help but get up and dance to.

                  7) High
Again another slow one to start off which can make you feel a bit sad. Not as chilled out as track 4 but very emotional in terms of lyrics and how the instruments are played. The chorus does liven up a little but is still very sombre. Near the end of the song it also gets lively but its still remains a sad song.

                  8) Comfort in Sound
I love this song because it seems to be in the middle of deciding whether it’s a sad or happy song. The guitar plays a sweet little tune with another instrument playing a mystical tune. The lyrics are lovely and the vocalist’s voice is extremely hypnotising. Forget track 2 I think this might be my favourite song as I thinks it’s just perfect. There is no fault, I love the lyrics, and the music is haunting and beautiful with the chorus almost bringing a tear to my eye. Even the guitar solo sounds upbeat but is also very solemn. I just adore this song and never get tired of hearing it.

                  9) Feeling a Moment
This is quite a cool song, starts off with just a quiet noise and then boom, someone’s voice starts singing, well howling. Again a slow song but it also sounds very excitable and upbeat at the same time. The lyrics are brilliant and blend so well with the music being played.

                  10) Burn the bridges
This song is ok I best, the beat isn’t that inspiring and it just sounds like a song that was written extremely quickly. Also the guitar solo just sounds a mess and I don’t think this was a very well written song.

                  11) Tumble and Fall
Sounds pretty cool with a funky drum beat going on with some sort of instrument playing in the background which gives it a very happy feeling. The lyrics are very nice and sound beautiful.

                  12) Forget about Tomorrow
This is quite a cool song with nice sounds coming from the guitar and the lyrics go with the music. However it can become a bit tiresome although the chorus is pretty imaginative and will leave a nice feeling with you.

                  13) Tender
This does sound as if it’s going to a nice and slow little song by the start of it. A beautiful intro with gorgeous lyrics that almost make me want to cry. Then it does turn a bit livelier and the guitar seems to get a bit more confident within the song. However that only last a few moments and the beautiful music from the intro comes back again making this another beautiful song.

                  14) Pushing the Senses
I’m in limbo with this song. I honestly can’t decide whether I like it or not. On one side it does sound really energetic and fun but then it can seem a bit used and uninventive. Listen to it yourself and decide.

                  15) Save Us
Pretty average song if you ask me, nothing really of any importance to say about it. Lyrics are ok, music doesn’t really have me dancing or thinking it is at all memorable.

                  16) Seven days in the Sun
This song sounds way too much like heavy metal at the start to give me a good impression of it. Sounds off with too much noise and then actually manages to become really boring. This song is extremely monotonous and I can’t even bear to listen to it until the chorus comes on which is pretty funky and does redeem this song if only a little.

                  17) Insomnia
Again I don’t like this song; I really don’t like the end of this album very much. Sounds extremely tiresome, I really couldn’t listen to this that often. The guitar sounds too intruding and the lyrics just don’t sound right against the beat of the music.

                  18) Turn
I like the sound of this one to start off with; the guitar isn’t too loud and only has a few sounds. The drums are light but add a certain beat to the music. The lyrics are soothing and actually seem to melt within the music. The whole song sounds amazing and is extremely memorable.

                  19) Yesterday went too Soon
Oh god another bad one, I really don’t like this. Sounds extremely boring and the usual lovely voice of the vocalist just aggravates me in this song. Sounds very amateurish and well just rubbish, do I need to say anymore.

                  20) Suffocate
I love the sound of this song, it sounds very mysterious and exotic with the vocals sounding very mystical. The music is wonderful and adds to the theme of this song. This is most definitely a chill out song and is the perfect ending to a wonderful album.

Overall what else can I say, I really love this album. Ignoring a few songs which I can’t stand, most of this album is inspiring and the music is wonderful. Feeder is extremely talented and now I want to see them live. I love how the sound of the music, the lyrics and vocals are all used together to blend and make fantastic sounding songs. The guitar can sometimes get a little irritating when played as if this is heavy metal but most of the time it is played to the song’s strengths with the drums adding a sense of funk and beat to the songs. The lyrics are well written and in most of the songs they song extremely beautiful when mixed with the music.

Length: 76 minutes, short songs really, most only being just three minutes which is rather annoying as some i wish lasted longer.
                  Price: £8.97 from amazon.co.uk
Clarity: The CD is pretty clear although on some songs it does sound a bit tinny. Some songs also sound just like a bit of noise which is really bad.
I love this album and I recommend it to everyone.
