Advantages: The songs

Disadvantages: Some of the songs

Well I’ve liked Feeder for a while now but to be honest I only knew a couple of their songs. So when a couple of friends of mine went to see them in concert and said they were excellent I thought I should get better acquainted with them. The best way to do this is to listen to their best songs which are all fortunately listed on their album the Singles.

1) Come Back Around
The first track starts off the album with a nice beat, some vocals and then goes full into a guitar solo with the chorus. The song starts off simple with only a few beats and turns back into this a few times during the song. Between this beat comes a full on rock song with the catchy chorus, meaty guitar sounds giving a fun and funky song to start off a great album.

2) Buck Rogers
This has to one of my favourite songs on the album. Again it starts off with a cool, funky beat with the lyrics coming in. But then the guitar pounds in with the drums giving an utterly thrilling song which I always have to get up and dance to. The chorus is extremely catchy; my one criticism of this song is it seems too short for me.

3) Shatter
This song is fantastic and just sounds absolutely brilliant. It has some strong guitar sounds with a hard drum beat with some thought provoking lyrics. However great it sounds after the first hearing it does get a little repetitive after you have heard it a few times.

4) Just the way I’m feeling
This is a slow song which really gets you into a chilled out mood. The drum beat is very soft with the guitar hardly being played, just a soft melody. The chorus does get a little energetic with the guitar coming more into play but overall this is a song to listen to when you want to be in a calm mood.

5) Lost and Found
I’ve never really grown accustomed to this song. I always just thought that it doesn’t have any beat or melody to it, it just sounds like lots of noise that goes on for a few minutes. The vocalist is pretty much screaming and I think the drums play too much which make this one of my least favourite songs. One good point I can say is that half way through the song there is a cool guitar solo which sounds pretty cool.

6) Just a Day
I think this probably has to every Feeder’s fan’s favourite song and is probably the most well known song by them. And it should be, it immediately starts with one of the catchiest tunes you will ever hear with the guitar and drums coming into full effect. The lyrics are brilliant and funny when you listen to them and the song never becomes tiring. I must have listened to this song a million times but I still love it. The chorus is extremely upbeat with the tune at the start making reappearance. Again this is a song which you can’t help but get up and dance to.

7) High
Again another slow one to start off which can make you feel a bit sad. Not as chilled out as track 4 but very emotional in terms of lyrics and how the instruments are played. The chorus does liven up a little but is still very sombre. Near the end of the song it also gets lively but its still remains a sad song.

8) Comfort in Sound
I love this song because it seems to be in the middle of deciding whether it’s a sad or happy song. The guitar plays a sweet little tune with another instrument playing a mystical tune. The lyrics are lovely and the vocalist’s voice is extremely hypnotising. Forget track 2 I think this might be my favourite song as I thinks it’s just perfect. There is no fault, I love the lyrics, and the music is haunting and beautiful with the chorus almost bringing a tear to my eye. Even the guitar solo sounds upbeat but is also very solemn. I just adore this song and never get tired of hearing it.

9) Feeling a Moment
This is quite a cool song, starts off with just a quiet noise and then boom, someone’s voice starts singing, well howling. Again a slow song but it also sounds very excitable and upbeat at the same time. The lyrics are brilliant and blend so well with the music being played.

10) Burn the bridges
This song is ok I best, the beat isn’t that inspiring and it just sounds like a song that was written extremely quickly. Also the guitar solo just sounds a mess and I don’t think this was a very well written song.

11) Tumble and Fall
Sounds pretty cool with a funky drum beat going on with some sort of instrument playing in the background which gives it a very happy feeling. The lyrics are very nice and sound beautiful.

12) Forget about Tomorrow
This is quite a cool song with nice sounds coming from the guitar and the lyrics go with the music. However it can become a bit tiresome although the chorus is pretty imaginative and will leave a nice feeling with you.

13) Tender
This does sound as if it’s going to a nice and slow little song by the start of it. A beautiful intro with gorgeous lyrics that almost make me want to cry. Then it does turn a bit livelier and the guitar seems to get a bit more confident within the song. However that only last a few moments and the beautiful music from the intro comes back again making this another beautiful song.

14) Pushing the Senses
I’m in limbo with this song. I honestly can’t decide whether I like it or not. On one side it does sound really energetic and fun but then it can seem a bit used and uninventive. Listen to it yourself and decide.

15) Save Us
Pretty average song if you ask me, nothing really of any importance to say about it. Lyrics are ok, music doesn’t really have me dancing or thinking it is at all memorable.

16) Seven days in the Sun
This song sounds way too much like heavy metal at the start to give me a good impression of it. Sounds off with too much noise and then actually manages to become really boring. This song is extremely monotonous and I can’t even bear to listen to it until the chorus comes on which is pretty funky and does redeem this song if only a little.

17) Insomnia
Again I don’t like this song; I really don’t like the end of this album very much. Sounds extremely tiresome, I really couldn’t listen to this that often. The guitar sounds too intruding and the lyrics just don’t sound right against the beat of the music.

18) Turn
I like the sound of this one to start off with; the guitar isn’t too loud and only has a few sounds. The drums are light but add a certain beat to the music. The lyrics are soothing and actually seem to melt within the music. The whole song sounds amazing and is extremely memorable.

19) Yesterday went too Soon
Oh god another bad one, I really don’t like this. Sounds extremely boring and the usual lovely voice of the vocalist just aggravates me in this song. Sounds very amateurish and well just rubbish, do I need to say anymore.

20) Suffocate
I love the sound of this song, it sounds very mysterious and exotic with the vocals sounding very mystical. The music is wonderful and adds to the theme of this song. This is most definitely a chill out song and is the perfect ending to a wonderful album.

Overall what else can I say, I really love this album. Ignoring a few songs which I can’t stand, most of this album is inspiring and the music is wonderful. Feeder is extremely talented and now I want to see them live. I love how the sound of the music, the lyrics and vocals are all used together to blend and make fantastic sounding songs. The guitar can sometimes get a little irritating when played as if this is heavy metal but most of the time it is played to the song’s strengths with the drums adding a sense of funk and beat to the songs. The lyrics are well written and in most of the songs they song extremely beautiful when mixed with the music.

Length: 76 minutes, short songs really, most only being just three minutes which is rather annoying as some i wish lasted longer.
Price: £8.97 from amazon.co.uk
Clarity: The CD is pretty clear although on some songs it does sound a bit tinny. Some songs also sound just like a bit of noise which is really bad.
I love this album and I recommend it to everyone.
