After its release they reverted completely to type, and while that was greeted with great joy by their fans, raised on their traditional bland of desert blues, to this reviewer it was a backward step. The two studio albums after "The Soft Parade" ("Morrison Hotel" and the outstanding "LA Woman") both have their moments but this is their best complete long-player. Premium Review The Soft Parade - The Doors: Maligned but magnificent (325 words)

Rating:

I've got a mate who regularly trots out his theory that if The Beatles were still going today they'd sound like the Chemical Brothers. His argument is that they were in a state of constant evolution, and not all of it sat too comfortably with their fans. "The Soft Parade" was the Doors' first - and last - step on the experimental ladder brought into the popular musical world by Lennon & McCartney. It finds them at their rambling best, toying with the soundscapes that came to influence the prog rock of the early 1970s, and knocking out a few decent tracks at the same time. Premium Review Completely Different Sound from the Doors (160 words)

Rating:

This was the Doors fourth album and marks a radical change in the Doors musical direction when compared to the previous three albums. In the three albums before Ray Manzarek’s keyboards make up the dominant sound of the band, in this album a horn section makes up most of the main music. The songs are generally weaker as well, although there are some exceptions with “Wishful Sinful” which is a tender ballad and also the track “Soft Parade” which is a thumping track. Products similar to The Soft Parade - The Doors

Trancey, trippy, feedback laden shoegazing fare back from the 90s Somewhat generic and not the most original example of it's genre

The Doors continue to write strong songs with great musicianship The new prominence given to 'the blues' won't be for everyone

Classic Doors None

Absolutely Briilliant!! None At All!

The album contains one interesting and unique sequence Everything else is bland and completely uninspiring

Some strong music is contained within this album, a number of incredibly hard hitting tracks. There are a few weak links here, not always is the music entirely effective.

Rare, early releases now more readily available. There was probably a reason they ceased production in the first place.

Persevere with this and it will be very rewarding. May not be appreciated upon first listen.
