... songs, political rants, songs expressing feelings or observations, there's plenty to enjoy on this album and each song has a great combination of vocals, melody and some amazing guitar and charango playing. I have to say that the pace of some of the songs is a little bit too old-fashioned for me and as I don't speak Spanish the lyrics don't mean a great deal either. It may not be right up my road but Violetta Parra is still a legend who had a huge influence on many Latin American artists and lived an interesting life...more

Violeta Parra's anthology is an excellent collection of the Chilean artist's songs as you've never heard them before, the sound is much improved when compared to the rugged and aged original releases. That doesn't mean that the music sounds any less from a bygone era than it is. The style of singing that Parra uses is hard to find today, she reveals a lot of emotion in her singing, whether it be passion, anger or sadness.
