The Soul Sessions was Joss Stone's debut album. Released in 2003 when Joss was only just 17 years old. Incredible in itself for such a mature debut at such an early age, what seems even more stunning to me was that this soul inspired album is by a British artiste. I am having so much fun converting my CD's to itunes, listening to albums that have been neglected. The artwork both on the cover of the CD case and on the CD itself is pretty retro, in smokey purple, in truth, quite boring. I could write about the triple platinum sales, or the awards and accolades, but I prefer to write about the songs themselves. Just one quote here, from the ... Read the complete review

It’s an oft repeated story. An attractive blonde teenager with a great voice is discovered singing on a talent show. She is handed a record deal and releases an album full of songs she hasn’t had a hand in writing. We’ve heard this one so many times before. Yawn, yawn, and yawn. But as she herself sings on “Super Duper Love”, “wait a minute, wait a minute”. THE SOUL SESSIONS is the title of British soul singer JOSS STONE. This is her debut album at just 17 and includes 10 tracks. The opening song CHOKIN' KIND has a funky intro which comes to life when Stone's soulful vocals come in. The muic swings by and the powerful chorus makes this a cracking start. SUPER DUPER LOVE is a real mellow tune with hearty vocals and a great chorus that is so soothing. The lyrics are a little hippish, but still good. FELL IN LOVE WITH A BOY has some corny lyrics, but the relaxing melodies and great rhythm means it is a good song. VICTIM OF A FOOLISH HEART has lyrics that tell a good story and is ...
