Advantages: Guns N' Roses

Disadvantages: All covers

GN’R’s third (if you count the illusion’s as one) studio album, The Spaghetti Incident? Took its title from an incident brought up in a court case, where the band’s original drummer, Steven Adler was suing the band for loss of earnings, having been fired for failing to kick a drug habit.
Featuring the third GN’R line up of W. Axl Rose, Slash, Duff ‘Rose Mckagan, Matt Sorum, Gilby Clarke and Dizzy Reed, this is an album made up entirely of cover tracks.
Beginning with the beautiful ‘Since I Don’t Have You’, (originally recorded by The Skyliners), it may trick you into thinking that this will be a more gentle album than you would normally expect from GN’R, you would be wrong.
The rest of the tracks are pretty much punk orientated with the first track swiftly followed by the Damned’s ‘New Rose’, The UK Subs’ ‘Down On The Farm’, The New York Dolls’ ‘Human Being’, and Iggy Stooges’ ‘Raw Power’.
‘Ain’t It Fun’ by The Dead Boys, obviously holds lots of personal significance to Guns N’ Roses, with the title of it quoted on the cover of the Use Your Illusion albums. T.Rex’s Buick Makane mixes with Soundgarden’s ‘Big Dumb Sex’, and is followed by Nazereth’s ‘Hair Of The Dog’. ‘Attitude’ by The Misfits comes next, with Duff Mckagan showing his punk Seatlle background by handling the vocals with spine tingling ease. ‘Black Leather’ by the Sex Pistols is a nice sleazy little number, followed by ‘You Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory’, originally recorded by Johnny Thunders, dedicated to his memory, and with Duff handling vocals, acoustic guitar, bass, drums and background vocals, though I find his voice much less suited to this kind of track, which gives a welcome break from the breakneck speed of the rest of the album, g
iving you a chance to catch your breath for Fear’s ‘I Don’t Care About You’.
Those that continue listening after ‘I Don’t Care About you’ will discover the controversial bonus track, ‘Look At Your Game Girl’ by the infamous Charlie Manson. The press had a field day with this track, accusing the boys of giving the imprisoned Charlie positive publicity. I personally feel there was a touch of irony in the fact that all royalties from this track went to the families of Manson’s victims.
Each of the cover’s on this album stays faithful to the original, but with the added benefit of Axl’s vocals, and Slash’s killer guitar riffs. My advise is, buy the album, and then take the advise given by Guns N’ Roses on the album cover; ‘A great song can be found anywhere. Do yourself a favour and go find the originals.”
